“Classic Decor, over bearing services and expensive premium facilities”

We stayed in Marriot for one week first week of May 2008. BY default, when on business trip, this is our favorite choice. However, I was not impressed with this Marriot at all, perhaps it is mostly because its high price and extra "unadvertised premium" for the usage of pool.

Overall, it is a good busy stay because of its location.

Location: A1. Right on top of the rail central station so you have quick and convenient access to every where.

Price: Very expensive. single $180 US and double $240 US.

Facilities: Fitness club is compementary but pool access is $32US each time. May I say "WOW"??!!! What is misleading is that this is not communicated even on their official web site so we complainted to both HQ and local manager. Of course, they did notthing. 3 Days later, we escalted the complaint, they still did nothing. We were very disapoointed. We don't mind local rules. But they should be communicated upfront not after facts. And in an inertnational Marriott? I would have expected from Meitesu grand hotel or other local hotels, but NEVER Marriott. I urged them to update their offical website, and hopefully they have complied.

Restaurants: Hotel has its restaurant and breakfast buffet.. Very pricy. If you include breakfast at check-in, it is only $18US / day. But itis charged to you EVERYDAY. If you don;t take it at check in, they will charge you $25 for the same breakfast each time you access it. We found plentyful great selections at train level and outside so food was never a problem. There are some great restaurants on 12/ 13 floor of the same building. Do not belong to Marriot, but for quality, value and cost, they are great. Both for personal and business value, I woudl vot for outside of Marriott.

Service: Mostly tall hat female porters all around the hotel. refreshing but overbearing in some areas. Interesting japanese international hotel. Everytime we go to main reception level, you get guided to everywhere and being breeted multiple times. It takes a few days to get use to it. No tips needed anywhere so it is REALLY complemetary and sincere.

Lobby: They have quite a few. Main one is on 2nd floor and eating/drinking is forbidden. Classic decor.

Overall, we had a OK stay. Not so comfortable with their overbearing services. Curteous, polite but odd. classic decore but pool amenity "premium" is outrageous. I think next time we will just stay in ryokan since pool is extra and Marriot is no longer Marriot for me!

Hope this helps.

Had chosen this hotel, like the Swissotel Nankei Osaka, based mainly on its great location on top of the JR subway and Shinkansen bullet train station. Upon arrival from Kyoto, we just followed the overhead signs in the train station that led us to the hotel.

Had to take two lifts to our check in area on the 36th floor since we had booked the Conceirge level Premier room. This can seem a little cumbersome as each time you would have to take two lifts to reach your room and likewise, take two lifts just to leave your room.

Our corner room, being 55 square meters, was quite huge! Though there is no separation between the bedroom and its sitting hall, the whole room does feel more like a Junior Suite as in most hotels. Having paid only 58,000 yen for the room, we thought it was superb value compared to the slightly larger Junior Suite at 70,000 yen (but probably with separate bedroom and sitting area).

In our Premier room, there is a bathroom with wash basin, bath tub and showers and another toilet with wash basin - very convenient in the mornings for two people to wash up at the same time. Oh yes, the toiletries that were offered were of good quality ones, too.

View wise, we could see downtown Nagoya and even the famed Nagoya Castle! Bed wise, the two twin beds were huge and comfy enough for a good nights sleep. The rotational flat screen TV was big, too. There was even tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

I personally think besides the great location the hotel enjoys on top of the Shinkansen station, the other major plus factor is its spa facitilities. As a concerige level guest, we enjoyed free access (for others, it would cost more than 3,000 yen per person per day!) to its beautiful indoor swimming pool, hot onsen bath, sauna and fitness area. One could easily spend a good 1-2 hours in the spa area.

However, access to the spa area is only thru the 15th floor lobby - something I found to be very strange as some hotels do have thoughtful and discreet, direct lift service to the spa area so you could easily slip in and out of your bathrobes. Another negative point, once out of the swimming pool, the common areas leading to the locker and changing rooms are FREEZING COLD! Hence, better leave your bathrobes near the pool.

Breakfasts, though not the widest range, was good enough for us. We had no choice but to have it at the Club lounge as we would have to pay more to dine in the lobby's beautiful coffee shop. In the lounge, we could use the internet service as well. Never try the hotel's restaurants as the best food could be had cheaper at the nearby Takashimaya's B2 Gourmet Street! Be sure to try its wide range of deep fried tempuras, grilled fish, Chinese dumplings etc etc.

All in all, we had a wonderful stay. Regrettably, we only stayed for one night and visited the Sakae area for some shopping and the Nagoya Castle for some cultural information. When in Nagoya again, we will not stay anywhere else but here!

We travel internationally frequently including over 75 nights / year in Marriotts. This hotel -- all things together -- is one of the best two or three Marriott's in the works. Impeccable service, great concierge lounge and room views from, in our case the 40th floor. The AC system worked perfectly and noiselessly. They say it's one of the best six hotels in Japan. I believe it -- and, on top of the Nagoya train station with east access to other places o
for example, 30 minutes to Kyoto on a Shinkansen leaving every several minutes. Don't miss it!!

If you want a nice hotel with great service, in the most convenient location in Nagoya - stay at the Marriott Nagoya. The hotel is located right above all the connecting trains and buses, which houses a maze of underground shopping and restaurants. It is also a direct shot if you take the train to and from the Nagoya airport. I would definitely stay here again.

“Great place to stay”

Marriott Nagoya

7 Mar 2008

I stayed here 3 nights with my wife. Our business partner booked us for Yen 22,500 per night. When I presented by Marriot Elite card, they reduce the rate to Yen 15,500 per night all taxes included. Perhaps it is not the peak tourist season. I posted some photos of the room at www.geocities.com/marriotassocia

The room is quite large for Japanese standards. Lobby is on the 15th floor. There was a slight inconvenience of taking one elevator to the 15th floor and then changing to another elevator from the 15th floor to our room on the 30th floor.

The windows vibrated a little bit when the wind was very strong one afternoon. It lasted for just while so our 3 night stay was nice and quiet. I did not hear the trains although I can see them from our window.

There is a charge to use the swimming pool and the sauna. Room is clean. Beds are comfortable. Bathroom looks new. Service is fast. It is a great hotel. I would definitely go back to this hotel.

Just go down and it is the Nagoya Train Station where we took our Bullet Train to Kyoto.
