We recently visited the gorgeous historical area of Kurashiki and just happened to come across the Ohara Museum of Art and what a find it was! Such a great collection of all of the great masters from Monet, Lautrec, Rodin and many, many more. It was very rare to get such a fantastic collection of esteemed western artists in a major city, let alone quite a small place in western Japan. There is also a terrific exhibition of Japanese art, craft and pottery, making it well worth the entry fee of 1,300 yen (approx $15AUD). A must see if you are visiting this area. The only complaint I would have, and it's a minor one, is that no photos are allowed, which is the case in all Japanese galleries and I really don't understand why because in all the prestigious galleries of Europe and America, photos can be taken.
