The Lonely Planet guide says Why would you want to go to Huis Ten Bosch - why not got to the real Japan, or the real Netherlands? A good point, but for those who, like me, who take an anthropological attitude and want to find out what a Netherlands- theme park in Japan is like, then the Hotel Den Haag is a very good choice.
The hotel is located at the far end of the the park, so if you (like us) get the overnight train down (you arrive just as the park opens), you have all day to wander through the park to the hotel (your suitcases are taken off you at the entrance, to await you at the hotel). You can the leave the hotel by complimentary bus, and be on a train to the 'real Japan' within 24 hours of arrving.
We were provided with a very large corner room, large bathroom, and enjoyed a good breakfast (although the 'western' options may have been a little surprising for some people).
