My Wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks for our Honeymoon and I am not lying when I say it was the most amazing 2 weeks of our lives!!
What was Amazing...
We upgraded to the Ocean Wing and I kid you not - was worth the upgrade price. The rooms are massive and the views are exceptional. The bath on our balcony, sipping Champagne whilst watching the unrestricted views of the South China Sea Sunset was amazing. The cleanliness of the room was impeccable; the bed got turned down every evening and fresh fruit, and chocolates delivered every day. Thank you Victoria (our room attendant) for looking after us so beautifully.
The Customer Service of every single member of staff was absolutely incredible. If we had an issue and spoke to someone about it, that person would resolve the matter without hesitation of referring it to other members of staff. The free wifi around the hotel kept falling over so I mentioned this to the staff on the front desk – within 2 mins there was a knock on my door and there was a man with a router ready to install and set us up! Spot on!!
The staff made our honeymoon very memorable and I would like to thank them, each and every one of them for making my wife and I feel very special. Willender the lifeguard at the ocean wing pool - for his recommendations on where to go for food and for being a greatly entertaining guy. All the fabulous ocean wing poolside staff for their attentiveness and great service – the daily free nibbles, ice cream and water came just at the right time and was brilliant. I would like to thank every member of staff on the front desk at the main lobby and also at the ocean wing lobby for their help and service with a smile. I would like to make a special mention to William at the lobby reception who quickly sorted out an issue we had and contributed hugely to our wonderful stay at the Rasa Ria, and to Steffi (excuse the spelling) who always wore a smile and was pleased to see us.
The Orang utan Sanctuary was a very memorable experience for us both and fulfilled my Wife’s life long dream. The baby Orang utans were on top form. Wulan came down the tree and sat purched for ages allowing us to get some amazing photo’s. Baby Ten-Ten was sooooooo cute. We have adopted her and we can't wait to receive updates on her progress. I would like to say a special thank you to Bedley the Ranger at the Rasa Ria Orang utan Sanctuary for his helpfulness, friendliness and carrying our breakfast up to the summit for sunrise (summit breakfast – do it!!). He was 1 in a million and both Sarah and I would like to say ‘Thank you’!!
The Sunsets were unbelievable!!!! Every evening at half five, we made our way down to the Coast bar and sat at the terrace with a 180 degree panoramic view of the sun setting. No sunset was the same and each and every one was breathtaking!
The weather was hot hot hot! Our average temperature was 37 degrees during the day and roughly 28 degrees in the evenings. The humidity is high so for all those ladies with curly hair, don't bother trying to blow dry it in the evenings - it will be curly again by the time you get to the restaurant. The weather was pretty consistent - it was sunny from early morning until roughly 2-3pm when the clouds would appear and it would rain at about 4pm for an hour or two. Some people would be disappointed by this, however it is in fact a perfect weather design to stop all us holiday makers from completely frying!! The sun is extremely intense so don't be fooled by thinking that the shade will protect you, and the weather is a welcome break from the sun for a couple of hours.
There are 3 gazebo’s on the beach, which you can hire and have sunset dinner’s or breakfast. We did both – dinner for our last night (truly magical) and our final breakfast. They all come with hammocks so great photo opportunity. Please remember your Deet for the evenings!!!!
What was great…
There are 6 restaurants to choose from and each one offered its own unique experience. The food was a little on the pricey side but was exceptional so I really didn’t mind the prices. Was great to try each one – The Teppanyaki restaurant was our personal favourite follow by the Makan Street (Street food stalls).
Staying in the Ocean Wing we went for breakfast at the Coast restaurant every morning. Amazing breakfast!! Prosecco every morning if you want it!
You get free use (1 hour) catamaran and kayak – which was great. There are a number of other little excursions you can do while you are staying here. We loved the firefly watching. There are trips to local tribal villages; night nature walks and a Canopy walk to name but a few!
Great on site Gym – had free weights and all the usual machines. Try the Tai Chi classes in the mornings, its early but very relaxing and quite challenging. The resort had a fabulous spa, which was up by the golf club, the therapists were completely professional and polite and the treatments were brilliant. Just a minute's walk from the lobby or if you are feeling lazy, a 20 sec shuttle bus ride.
The traditional Malay dance and music is worth a look at (each sunset at the Sampan Bar). The evenings were lovely and peaceful and walking around the hotel at night is magical.
Our thoughts on improvements… (not many)
If a lively night time atmosphere is what you are after – then this is not for you. Perhaps a little more evening entertainment for those seeking it. Town is 45 minutes away and apart from the odd evening of live music at the main lobby, there is no form of entertainment.
The most memorable holiday ever. Thank you all Rasa Ria Family!
The Ocean Wing was fantastic and away from the building work going on round the Garden Wing. If you...
