We stayed a week at this resort only because we read so many reviews that it was very child-friendly. We brought our 2 children (aged 6 & 4). We were here mainly for diving so our mum looked after the kids while we were out diving. It only takes about 15 minutes by speedboat from Maldives airport to this resort. Check-in was okay.
We had the superior rooms which was huge. It came with a king-sized bed and they added a single bed for our son without any charge. Also had a 'sitting area' with a table and 2 chairs. Don't expect anything fancy, everything was basic but the rooms were very clean. Housekeeping cleaned up twice a day including turn-down service at night. I liked the tv channels, they had plenty of channels to choose from and your kids won't be bored with Cartoon Network. Hairdryer, kettle for boiling water and a safe was provided in the room and these were good enough for me.
Bk'fast was quite a bore, the same thing every single day. There was an egg station, and the same sausages, pancakes, chapatti and curry, breads and various muffins. I was tempted to skip bk'fast by the 4th day. Prices were pretty alright for lunch/dinner, around US8 for a burger or US12 for fish n chips. There was a buffet every-night but it was US35 which I thought was too pricey. We had lunch and dinner either at Sundowner's or Seabreeze. I loved the atmosphere at Seabreeze, romantic and really tranquil, my kids loved going there at night to see the baby sharks and pipefish swimming near the lagoon.
The food was pretty bad, it was always salty and there was 1 time when we ordered the vegetarian noodles which was so salty that it was totally uneatable. When we complained, the waiter told us this was 'normal' and that we have to inform them that we want it less salty, what a crock of bull! I DID NOT have a good impression of the waiters, they were boorish, couldn't speak proper English, impatient and sometimes rude. Not all of them are like that but the majority of them were. Some of them did take the time to chat and to ask us about our country.
I brought my own mineral water, all 18 bottles of them! A 1.5L of mineral water costs US$3 excluding 10% tax at the resort, so try to bring your own water if you can.
Diving - was pretty disappointed in the dives. We expected more, only to see broken corals and hard corals. Visibility was pretty bad, 5m at most. The dives we had was about 20 minutes away by speedboat. The dive centre only offers 2 morning dives, you have to be at the dive centre by 8.15am and you get back to the resort by about 12noon. The 2nd dive in the afternoon is around 2.30pm and it's only 1 boat dive. I thought it strange that they charge you for the boat to take you out and get this...2 dives in the morning means they charge you twice for taking the boat out. So you pay for the boat, pay for the dive and pay for your equipment if you don't have any. A dive computer is compulsory so bring your own if you have one.
I would highly recommend diving at the house reef, it's so much better than the dive sites 20 minutes away. They make you do an orientation dive for your 1st dive. The usual stuff like mask clearing and pushing your regulator away and finding it again. Although the corals were mostly broken, the fish life was pretty good. I was so happy to find a mantis-shrimp on that dive, I've never seen one before, just finding that shrimp made my day. You can do these dives alone, just rent the 'tank' and go out on your own.
The beaches were pretty clean, I loved the powder white sand and crystal clear blue water.
My kids loved the pool, they had a fun pool for kids with a fountain and the adult pool had a swim up bar. I thought the kids club was pretty boring and my kids refused to go there so they were mostly at the pool while we were diving. There was also a playground near the kids club.
