Hotel is ideally located in the central business district of Makati. It is literally in front of a huge upscale shopping centre. It is a good base in Metro Manila to attend meetings and conferences.

Service was excellent. During my stay at the Renaissance, I got a terrible headache after spending the whole day attending meetings. I called the reception and ask if there's a nearby pharmacy where I can buy medicine. They told me not to worry as they can provide me with the medicine. After a few minutes, their in-house pharmacist came to my room and gave me the medicine. And at check out, they even asked me if I was feeling better.

Such simple gesture made me feel that I am welcome in this hotel and I will definitely stay at the Renaissance on my next visit to Manila.

“Great location and value, Club Level perks”

First of all, for the price you pay, you get a lot at the Renaissance Makati (I'm used to paying US$150+ at the Courtyard where I travel!). The rooms are above average, the bathroom with its separate shower and tub was nice, and service I thought was also above average. Having stayed at several Four Seasons properties, you can't compare the service, but you also can't compare the prices as they are typically 3 to 4 times as expensive!

As a Marriott Gold member, I was able to get access to the superb Club Level, where fresh fruits, made to order omelettes, and other tasty items were available at no charge in the morning. It was nice taking in the view of the Manila skyline while enjoying a fantastic breakfast. I loved the automatic espresso machine there! Internet access on the Club Level was also complimentary, however, it was down on a couple of occasions.

As other reviewers noted, the location is excellent, with restaurants and shops all around the hotel. The beds were comfortable (I was upgraded to a Superior Deluxe) with just the right amount of firmness. Overall, the hotel is great bargain, and if you have Gold or Platinum status, it's even better!

What the Renaissance Makati has going for it is a great location. It's right across the street from Greenbelt Park which is a series of shopping malls with mid to upscale brands, dozens of cafes, clubs and restaurants, service outlets (e.g. beauty salons, couriers, dry cleaners) and cinemas. Another large shopping area, Glorietta is a mere 5 minute walk away.
I stayed in a deluxe room which has 2 twin beds. In terms of size the room is pretty standard, smaller compared to the hotels built earlier, but not cramped at all. In terms of decor and ambiance, it's a bit ordinary. Not that it's tacky or bare, maybe just a bit lacking in character. The hotel has recently changed its beds, duvets and pillows, and having stayed here before, I find the new bedding definitely more cozy and comfortable.
Service is efficient and prompt, housekeeping requests were attended to quickly. The breakfast and lunch buffets offer dozens of options -- filipino, continental, chinese, japanese and is at par with hotels of similar standard. I booked an event at one of their function rooms and required a special menu for this. The Renaissance's Executive Chef was very gracious and gave us numerous options within our budget which were all so delicious that it was difficult to make the final choice.
Overall, the Renaissance is the best choice among the Makati hotels in terms of location. If you are looking for convenience and accessibilty, this is the place to stay. However if you're looking for the wow factor -- something more distinct, impressive and/or different, there are better choices in the area.

As part of the Marriott range of hotels we expected a minimum level of service and amenities but were disappointed. On paying for a suite for our wedding anniversary my wife & I were told after querying the price only includes 1 breakfast (??). Room was OK but old and tired for this price. Massive queues at reception throughout day. No pool available as its being refurb'ed (30C temp outside)- Pity no one told us this during booking it through Marriott on the phone. Lastly the Club Lounge was more like a creche with uncontrolled kids running everywhere doing what kids do. As such Internet access was impossible to find a free terminal. Not quite the pricey & exclusive weekend I had hoped for. The area itself is good with Greenbelt right over the way and good restaurants in there. Security is tight within the hotel. The local families use the hotel as 2-3 days shelter for them and their extended familes when the power goes out for periods. This means all facilities being overrun and queuing for 20min + to get breakfast. Limited toiletries with no toothbrush or shaver (but available in Minibar basket at 10x local prIce) was a little cheap. If I choose Marriott/Renaiss for consistency in a Business hotel,(Room amenities, Speedy breakfast , access to Internet) this experience makes me seriously consider about choosing Marriott again.

Stayed at the Renaissance for two nights during August. This hotel has a lot going for it. The rooms are well sized, quiet and comfortable. Complimentary bottled water a big plus, as is standard inclusion of iron and ironing board. Standard bathrooms, while retaining an authentic early 80's period ambience are large, spotlessly clean and include a separate shower stall. High quality beds are very comfortable, with acres of crisp white manchester and a sizeable collection of pillows of different shapes and sizes. The bed was so good that it tended to highlight the frowziness of the chairs and other furntiture fittings. The sofa, tub chair and curtains in particular, were below par and in need of a bit of a renaissance themselves.

The hotel's lobby and public areas are grand in a towering pink/brown granite and glass kind of way and well populated by friendly staff. Buffet breakfast is good, but like many higher end hotels, the Renaissance struggles to deliver a decent breakfast sausage. And while not a complaint specific to this hotel, I am still searching for a hotel breakfast set-up that provides enough space for one person to eat and read a small newspaper at the same time.

The hotel is very well located right across the road from one of the large restuarant and mall complexes in Makati. So no problem with ducking out for a spot of shopping for designer accessories at 8 o'clock on a Sunday night. Another strong point for this hotel is its people. All of the staff members I encountered were delightfully friendly, efficient and helpful.

Would I stay again? Probably. The Renaissance is a very good, value for money hotel that does not disappoint in any major way. The view from my room did, however, include a direct line of sight to the Shangri La, the Peninsula and the Mandarin Oriental. A glance at the slightly tatty curtains in my room and then back to the other hotels in the near distance has, however, left me somewhat tempted to give one of the others a try when I am next in Manila, if only to satisfy a niggling need to compare.
