What the Renaissance Makati has going for it is a great location. It's right across the street from Greenbelt Park which is a series of shopping malls with mid to upscale brands, dozens of cafes, clubs and restaurants, service outlets (e.g. beauty salons, couriers, dry cleaners) and cinemas. Another large shopping area, Glorietta is a mere 5 minute walk away.
I stayed in a deluxe room which has 2 twin beds. In terms of size the room is pretty standard, smaller compared to the hotels built earlier, but not cramped at all. In terms of decor and ambiance, it's a bit ordinary. Not that it's tacky or bare, maybe just a bit lacking in character. The hotel has recently changed its beds, duvets and pillows, and having stayed here before, I find the new bedding definitely more cozy and comfortable.
Service is efficient and prompt, housekeeping requests were attended to quickly. The breakfast and lunch buffets offer dozens of options -- filipino, continental, chinese, japanese and is at par with hotels of similar standard. I booked an event at one of their function rooms and required a special menu for this. The Renaissance's Executive Chef was very gracious and gave us numerous options within our budget which were all so delicious that it was difficult to make the final choice.
Overall, the Renaissance is the best choice among the Makati hotels in terms of location. If you are looking for convenience and accessibilty, this is the place to stay. However if you're looking for the wow factor -- something more distinct, impressive and/or different, there are better choices in the area.
