Stayed at the Hotel Hyundai for 3 days on our cross Russia trip by Plane. The hotel itself is part of a large business centre and I think the majority of the floors are offices. Anyhow, we arrived at around 10am in the morning after a long overnight flight from Moscow. The city is almost an hour from the airport that serves 3 cities, so it does take a while to get from the airport to the centre. We hooked up with a local man from the same plane and took a taxi and ended up paying about 1500 Rub for all 3 pax. There is supposedly a bus but we did not investigate further. Anyhow, when we arrived at 10 am we were promptly given our room and this was great since we were rather tired after the 8 hour flight. The room itself was ok, very "American style" and rather large for Russia. We had a great view over the bay, but they had given us twin bed instead of a king, but we decided not to try to change. The bathroom was large and comfortable. During our stay it was about 25-30 degrees outside and we were a little disappointed with the air-conditioning in our room, it worked to some extent, but it was not adjustable. In the hotels defence, we did not complain about it. The rooms have wifi and you have to buy scratch cards in the reception. The charge based on data usage and I think 200MB was about 400RUB. I bought a 200 Mb card and it worked our entire 3 day stay, and we were online quite a lot. Connection was very quick. Breakfast was very nice, and they even have an omelette stand where they will make you an omelette to order
The hotel also had a very nice large swimming pool we used every day. I cost 200 Rub per person. Well worth it
Vladivostok is by far not the centre of the universe, and finding a decent place to eat was not always easy. On the first day we were recommended the restaurant Nostalgia. This was obviously the tourist trap of the town, because when we went there, it was a small dining room behind a café in a side street, and the room was full of Asian tourist. Needless to say we skipped going there and went to the German style beer house almost across the road. This place was ok.
During our stay we also went to Korea House and this was very nice if you like Korean food. Staff were very friendly and service oriented.
We had lunch at the Mauro Giavanni on the pedestrian street Fokino, and it was so so, but maybe we ordered the wrong pizza. We did go to the Pizza M bar ant this was very good. There are several outlets in the same building but if you go up towards the drama theatre and behind the building to the right you will find it.
We tried Magic burger on svetlanskaya and this is obviously one of the most popular fast food joints in town. Sorry to say the burgers were horrible, but the restaurant was packed. Needless to say there is no Mc D or Burger King in town so I guess most people don’t know what a burger should taste like, and Moscow is 8 Hours away.
Our absolutely favourite restaurant was by far the restaurant Syndicate on Ul Komsomolskaya 11. Its American western style with steaks, burgers etc. Very nice service, but I think somewhat expensive for local standards, but it was packed so they must be doing something right.
For those who crave ice cream there is also a Baskin Robins ice cream parlour in town at the end of Svetlanskaya UL.
In Summary, Vladivostok is a nice city, and the people are by far some of the friendliest Russians I have met.
