you cant fault this hostel on location and atmosphere - lots of international travellers, very friendly but also very respectful of people who want to sleep - hanging out in the stairwell and in the bar area to drink, rather than near the rooms late at night. Check in was informative & the people who run the hostel are amazingly organised and efficient.
however showers are disgusting - poor drainage, dirty, often no hot water, one without a tap on teh hot water side of things. toilets arent much better, and our room was disgusting - it stank of vomit, the walls were filthy and left white powder residue on our suitcases, and the was a thin see through curtain which blocked absolutely no light into the room.
for some reason the sheets supplied only cover 3/4 of the bed and dont tuck in to the mattress at all, so you often end up sleeping on the mattress.
the internet is one computer which is constantly being used.
we were unfortunately there whislt it was reasonably hot in st petersburg (july) and it was like a sauna in the rooms, but if you opened the windows there were flies and mozzie everywhere. we lasted one night, and then checked into a hotel for the other two nights which was bliss.
it is cheap, we we probably got exactly what we paid for, but i have stayed in 7-8 hostels and this was by far the grottiest i have seen. i feel bad leaving a poor review as their service & friendliness was excellent, but i wouldnt stay there again!
