Two of us have travelled to Guangzhou to visit the famous Canton Fair. While the hotel is located only a few minuets drive from the Pazhou complex, mind you with a complimentary shuttle - the rooms are quite small, ok to a standard - but certainly not what I call a four star hotel. If you speak english, during the fair you can wait to speak to someone who can understand what you need, and accomodate you well. In room, if you enjoy watching tv like myself, you can forget any quality watching, as the rooms have no sky channel or cable to watch tv. The beds are "LIKE ROCK" they are so hard, and with a six night stay I leave with a back that feels like I have my hip welded to my spine and can't move left of right. BEDS ARE VERY HARD, we called house keeping and have layered our beds with three doona/quilt covers to pad them so you can have a small percentage of relief during your nights sleep. Breakfast at the hotel in the "DATES" restaurant, we opted to have the omlette and toast every morning, as the buffet offered a lot of chinese delights - not to a typical western liking, considering the tourism during this time of the fair. There is a local McDonalds down the road a short 5 minute stroll, no coffee shops or cake shops - but one place that we had a very spicy pork chop in a restaurant that did not speak more than a handful of english words, from one staff member! You will need to travel to Shaimain Island for any real food! Worth visiting if you have time!
