We stayed here twice: four nights during their soft opening early May (I just read the soft opening is still actual as I'm writing this, September '11) and two or three nights in early July. Our first stay (soft price, they claimed) was riddled with faults: staff knocking on our doors half a dozen times a day: to fix this, fix that etc. and cleaning ladies loudly chatting very early in the morning, as well as badly cleaning the room or NOT cleaning the bathroom as we asked. Okay, we thought, probably starters' glitches, so we tried the hotel again a few months later.
We found out we still had to pay as much as the "soft price" of the soft opening... And then all the lighting was broken in the room we entered - so they offered us the room next to it - where the water cooker was broken, the tv connection broke down after literally two seconds, dirty towels on the bathroom floor, of course some hairs in the bed, a redundant bulb in the lamp... We ended up taking combining the working elements of both rooms into one room. The bathroom/shower was already showing clear signs of decay: knobs and handles coming loose, the shower door had already been removed (or fallen off?), dirty walls, ... and this only a few months after opening - in fact, apparently still during the soft opening! What a joke of a disaster.
On the photos the rooms seem quite pretty, and the setup surely has its charms. However, the actual effect is rather stifling, claustrophobic even, due to the blue lighting (the hallways are very gloomy, like a cheap '90s horror B-flick) and the small size of the rooms. Not to mention the LRT noise. The new bar downstairs blares out very bad music, the bass of which reverberates easily up to the sixth floor and goes on until well after midnight. Ye early birds, be warned.
Service = 0. The manager is a snotty, arrogant hypocrite who promises a lot but cannot or will not deliver. One evening we asked him to fix us a taxi for the next morning (04:30). He said he would confirm the booking within half an hour. 45min later, still nothing, so we decided to give him a ring, only to discover our room phone didn't work at all. We went down to the lobby, asked him if the taxi was arranged -- he said "yes" but only then proceeded to phone the taxi company. The price was too high, so we asked him to haggle. A few words later he said a lower price was not possible - the funny thing is we spoke some Malay by then (traveling the country for over 4 months by then) and knew for sure he didn't haggle the least - which entails he is a liar. We ended up walking to another guest house on Jln Sultan around midnight to arrange a cheaper taxi, with an honest smile and reliable service. And thanks to Arenaa, about two hours less sleep than intended.
An utter scam, I would recommend this hotel to you only if I really, profoundly didn't like you.
