“Good enough for a short stay”

Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel

Stayed at Renaissance for 2 nights (I booked Mandarin Oriental, but in case of overbooking we were moved to Renaissance). Having read some of the reviews I hardly understand people who complained on the rooms. Yes, there are two wings in this hotel - the old and the new one. The rooms in the East wing are standard, in the West Wing - deluxe. So you have different rooms at different rates (the east ones are cheaper), why complain then? You get what you pay for.
Deluxe rooms are very big and as comfortable as you can expect of a five-star. Staff is polite and willing to help you (girls at reception even brought me a russian city map which they didn't have - but they found it at a store near the hotel). Breakfast is nothing special but offered a wide variety of fruits.
All in all, a very good location - a metro station is just a few steps walk from the hotel.
Recommended to everyone (but book deluxe rooms!).

“excellent facilities but horrible rooms in East Wing”

I stayed in the East Wing, obviously not Renaissance standards. The room was terrible, old and unclean. The rest of the hotel- Renaissance quality standards: excellent breakfast, pool, reception, staff, etc.

I have to say, that our opinion of this hotel was jaded from the beginning as we had booked to stay at the Marriot, but upon check in, got told that we were actually booked into the Renaissance (it was written in tiny print).

So, when we finally reloaded our van and made our way to the Renaissance, we were not in the best of moods. However, this was only made worse, by being told that we were in a completely different wing, one that was very old and modest; check in took way too long.

We dont ever mind staying in average hotels, and have done so throughout most of our travels, however this was supposed to be our "luxary" night in KL, and the hotel was very dissapointing - it was 3 star at best. The rooms smellt stale, they were very small, service was only slightly accomodating and the amenities were so-so.

On the positive, the pool was very big and there was ample chairs/tables nearby. The breakfast buffet was also very good, with everything you could want at a reasonable quality.

The hotel is in walking distance to KLCC and the monorail, so getting around is not really a problem. However, for us, we much prefer the bukit bintang region, and will make sure we never book with the marriot again as the reservation system was misleading.

In summary, we will not stay here again, and considering how many other hotel choices there are in KL, would encourage others to try there luck elsewhere

“Really Disappointing (this time)”

Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel

4 Sep 2007

Whilst on a mini tour of South East Asia with myself my husband and two children aged 18 and 14 we stayed at the Renaissance. The trip coincided with the 50th anniversary of Malaysian Independance and in my opinion the Renaissance just couldn't cope with the numbers staying. Our pre arrival requests ie 1 double and 1 twin weren't met and the reception staff didn't even tell us they were sending us to 2 twin rooms. Then we were moved to a room that was totally trashed and hadn't been serviced, finally we were allocated a clean double room. Over the next two days we had to return to reception 3 times to get our room key reprogrammed as it kept unprogramming itself.
After complaining the front desk would give us no compensation at all and finally the manager agreed to give us 1 free breakfast!

I've stayed here 4 times before with no problems so wouldn't totally condemn the hotel - the hotel and pool are great - but it was disappointing for such a large hotel chain.

We were told the hotel is 4 star but the facilities looked like below 3 star apart from the flash pool and lobby. Room is pathetic with old carpets, drainage problems, hanging electrical wires from sockets and age old furnitures. We booked a king size bed but got a twin on arrival. Next day when I asked for room change the first receptionist said there is no other rooms. Then I tried to cancel the booking and was told that as I booked through agents it is not possible. Another receptionist offered a room with king bed and got that..but the faacilities were the same. After three days we asked to see the maner and showed her our room and facilities. She apologised and moved us to another room. Never get cheated with photos..there are two wings one is west wing and the other is old and tired east wing. They refused to give the tariff for west wing rooms and asked us to look in the internet...A shame for Marriot hotels
