The Swiss Inn in Kuala Lumpur has a great location for anyone interested in China Town and the Central Markets.
It can't quite make up it's mind whether it is a budget hostel or a modest hotel and suffers as a consequence. The rate is not that cheap, being only about £10 cheaper than some of the more upscale hotels, but internally the hotel needs a serious update.
Because of it's long thin plan, getting around in the hotel involved the use of two lifts and a long corridor with numerous obstacles.
I didn't feel especially welcome on arrival at reception, although the porter was very friendly who took our bags up to the room.
The room itself reeked of tobacco smoke. With no opening windows and marginal air conditioning it's clearly going to stay that way forever. The bathroom was small, and suffered from a toilet that wouldn't stop running. I now know why there's a drought despite the rain! The twin beds were adequate, although very soft and creaky. Once upon a time it was clearly a very nice room, but lack of maintenance has hurt it badly.
Breakfast was included, and was served in the nice restaurant area fronting onto Jalan Petaling. The buffet was not extensive, but included cereals, toast and my personal favourite coconut rice with chicken curry. The coffee was probably, by some margin, the worst I have ever experienced anywhere. I only mention it because it was really bad. A nice local coffee or teh tarik would have been a much better.
Check out was as unfriendly as check in.

All in all it was acceptable, mainly because we simply slept there and didn't hang around, but you are paying a premium for the location and not getting a great room.
A quick tip - If you are using a taxi to get to the hotel, the front entrance with recepetion is actually on Jalan Sultan, which is the next street up from Jalan Petaling. To avoid a long walk with your bags, make sure they drop you there and not at the entrance to Petaling Street.
