I thought I'd booked in at her classier sister The Swiss Garden, and when I realised I hadn't I was a little disappointed.
However, the staff were friendly and helpful, the location was lively and fun and only a five minute walk from Maharajalela (Great Eastern) Monorail station, which is very handy for getting around the city.
The food in the petaling cafe was nice and reasonably priced.
Had all amenities like internet for 6RM per hour.
Rooms were fine and kept clean, I had the deluxe which was of 3 star standard, double bed, TV with cable (Lots of Live Premier League Football), fridge, kettle, hair dryer, tea & coffee etc.
Bathroom was a little small and only had shower.

Three nights in a de-luxe room (a/c - view of the Night Market - no real noise!) All facilities worked well; good size. The bathroom was small, but functional. Refrigerator, kettle, tea, coffee all in room.
Breakfast was OK and included. Eggs to order, cereal, fruit, toast, jam, honey, tea coffee - buffet presentation.
Location is unbeatable. Right on Petaling St and the night market. LRT and Pasar Seni within easy walking distance as are the National History Museum, Galleri Kuala Lumpur and Merderka Sq. Banks - it's all within easy walking reach.

“Unimpressive and expensive”

Swiss Inn Kuala Lumpur

18 Mar 2007

The Swiss Inn in Kuala Lumpur has a great location for anyone interested in China Town and the Central Markets.

It can't quite make up it's mind whether it is a budget hostel or a modest hotel and suffers as a consequence. The rate is not that cheap, being only about £10 cheaper than some of the more upscale hotels, but internally the hotel needs a serious update.

Because of it's long thin plan, getting around in the hotel involved the use of two lifts and a long corridor with numerous obstacles.

I didn't feel especially welcome on arrival at reception, although the porter was very friendly who took our bags up to the room.

The room itself reeked of tobacco smoke. With no opening windows and marginal air conditioning it's clearly going to stay that way forever. The bathroom was small, and suffered from a toilet that wouldn't stop running. I now know why there's a drought despite the rain! The twin beds were adequate, although very soft and creaky. Once upon a time it was clearly a very nice room, but lack of maintenance has hurt it badly.

Breakfast was included, and was served in the nice restaurant area fronting onto Jalan Petaling. The buffet was not extensive, but included cereals, toast and my personal favourite coconut rice with chicken curry. The coffee was probably, by some margin, the worst I have ever experienced anywhere. I only mention it because it was really bad. A nice local coffee or teh tarik would have been a much better.

Check out was as unfriendly as check in.
.
All in all it was acceptable, mainly because we simply slept there and didn't hang around, but you are paying a premium for the location and not getting a great room.

A quick tip - If you are using a taxi to get to the hotel, the front entrance with recepetion is actually on Jalan Sultan, which is the next street up from Jalan Petaling. To avoid a long walk with your bags, make sure they drop you there and not at the entrance to Petaling Street.

“good, middle-ranged hotel in central location”

Swiss Inn Kuala Lumpur

12 Mar 2007
1/1 found this review helpful

We stayed there 4 days, at arrival and before departure from Kuala Lumpur Airport. We found this hotel good and well priced. The rooms were old, but o.k. and clean. Beds were comfortable and clean as well.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast very much but for dinner we did not visit the hotel restaurant as it was very expensive.

The location is excellent, directly beside the china town night market. We had no problems but some people said it was very noisy at night.
