We came over from Munich via Dubai and had a short stay at ParkRoyal Kuala Lumpur.
This is a recently refurbished Hotel and with the excellention location to Sungai Wang & BB Plaza and Lot 10 shopping mall, it's no wonder a very popular hotel that is usually fully booked during the school holidays.
I had earlier booked with Le Merridian hotel but decided to cancelled with them and booked with ParkRoyal instead and my decision was well rewarded.
This hotel has a Double-Double. Here's the difference, most asian hotels have double twin instead of double double. That's a big difference if you have a party of 3 or more.
Double twin is only for two people for North American travellers.
We were a party of three and it really accomodates us really well.
Location wise, I cannot complain as right across the street is the MONEY Changer where most travellers go to. You get better rates from the fornt desk or from the local banks.
Across the main street is the famous Kuala LUmpur landmark, Sungei Wang Plaza which was built in the 80's and have been constantly upgraded.
Upon arrival to the hotel and the check in was a breeze.
Be sure to ask for any freebies or even 2-1 deals, sometimes the front desk staff would oblige. Sometimes you get a free upgrade or a higher floor room.
We had a fairly high floor room with a nice view of the monorail line below us and the TIMES SQUARE mall.
The room, I must say was recently updated and was spacious and funcitonal.
Lots of space for our luggage and bathroom was more than sufficient.
Lighting was excellent.
We booked a Doubble Doubble which was for 4 person but as a family of 2 + 1 adult child, it was more than enough for us.
As we booked more than 4 months in advance, we had a very good rate of in the region of MR 279.00 ++ per night stay.
In one of my stay in New York, the average nightly rate was US$ 300.00 of course we cannot compare NY with KL.
Both were 5 * stars* hotel.
We tried the buffett breakfast with went for MR 35.00 ++ per person which was quite reasonable when factored in to our Canadian currency.
During our stay we had problems with the toilet bowl as it would not stop running. We called maintenance but unfortunately it was a sunday and they did not have the spare parts and they maintenance guy took a bit longer than expected to fix the tolet bowl as he had to source for the parts.
Eventually he came back with a part taken from another faucet.
Location wise was fantastic and I highly recommended this hotel if you are travelling with family members and need convenience. Very close to LRT, Monorail and plenty of shopping arcade, lots of eatery and banks, etc, etc.
I encountered food poisoning a day before I was to go to Cameron Highlands. Unfortanetly I had to cancelled the trip. Beware, not all food stalls are clean, if you have to eat seafood, make sure it is fully cooked, especially clams ( cockles - a local clam, similar to the manila Clams).
Our check out was a breeze as our flight to another resort was a very early flight..
All in all, I highly recommend this hotel.
Eat out if you wanna save some $$ on food.
Get an early start as the weather can be pretty humid an...
