Another good stay here, this time for three nights (see my Dec review for other details). I was placed on Club Floor again, and am pleased to report that the gentlemen working up there again provided bulletproof service… knew my name, and greeted me at every occasion. They remembered how I drink my coffee, and that I preferred to have coffee by the PC, so I could work. Club Floor concierge re-arranged air travel for me, and booked a meeting with their conference people on short notice. Club floor gets RM44 of laundry a day for free, so that’s a nice bennie.

I ate at the main restaurant for the Friday night Seafood Buffett, and was absolutely delighted. They didn’t have grilled prawns, but they were boiling them… so I asked if they could be grilled… I quickly had six freshly, perfectly grilled prawns in front of me… with a bowl of hot butter! Wow. Excellent dinner and service. Only complaint? The white wine that was on free pour was complete plonk. I switched to sparkling water…

I was able to obtain an end room, which is larger by about a third, and was really pleased with the extra space. I may have Mrs. G and Kiddo with me here in May, and this room would be just fine, even with a rollaway bed. Amenities were still Red Earth, and the bathroom was very clean.

In my last review, I had complained about poor internet speeds, but did not have that problem this time… everything was just fine, good solid connection.

I’ll be back!

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza for a few days in March last year as we were travelling through Malaysia.

The hotel was lovely, more executive business than holiday but the luxury was very welcome. The breakfast was divine, fabulous choice with global tastes catered for and the food we had in the restaurants in the evening was lovely, if it a little pricey compared to other places.

One evening we went for food outside of the hotel. Found a little cafe/bar about 10 mins walk away (once we had negotiated the road crossings). Sorry I can't remember the name but generally food is soooo cheap compared to the hotels and we paid more for our cans of coke than we did for our main meal.

For those who wish to relax there is a pool with sun loungers and with a view of the Petronas twin towers it seemed like a very glamourous way to catch a tan before we travelled on.

Overall very nice hotel and would definitely return if back in KL.

Location: The hotel itself is not nothing special in regard to interior design, but it wins hands-down for location! If you take the escalators to the back of the lobby area one can enjoy a pleasant walk to the Surria Shopping Center and Petronas Towers. Suggest you walk to The Traders Hotel and enjoy strolling through the park to the mall. If you take the walk way out the front of the hotel and turn left you are minutes from Jalan Bukits Bintan (Star Hill Walk area) for affordable shopping and lots of dining options. This, along with the Monorail at the base of the hotel driveway, makes the location of the hotel tops for visitors in Kuala Lumpur. Note: We took the Luxury Tours & Travel bus from Meridien Hotel Shopping Arcade in Singapore to the Hotel Istana in Kula Lumpur. We had little luggage so simply walked from the Istana to the Crowne Plaza in less than five minutes.
The Room: The room is a decent size. However, a great deal of the main room area is taken away by a gigantic TV cabinet and a glass desk. The desk juts out into the main space and makes it awkward to move about the far end of the room. The room would be wonderfully spacious if these items were replaced with a wall-mounted flat-screen TV and a desk along the wall. There is a chez-lounge by the window that is angled to view the TV rather than the view out the window of the Petronas Towers. If the chez-lounge were turned around it would be a great place to sit and know you are in Kuala Lumpur (if you have a room with a tower view). The room was immaculately cleaned. The bed was very comfortable with crisp linens and fantastically plush pillows. The bathroom was huge, well equipped with good amenities, towels, robes, slippers, floor mats and a terrific shower with a choice of hand-held or rain shower heads… both had superb pressure and a heat adjustment feature for attaining the perfect temperature. The shower has a glass wall and swinging door and is separate from the bathtub. The tub is very large with sliding wall doors that open up the bathroom to the main room for… watching TV? There were no noise issues so we slept peacefully each night.
The Pool: The pool is medium sized with about two dozen comfortable sun-loungers. There is a restaurant at one end with some outdoor tables near the pool. The attendants are pleasant and came around with complimentary fruit kabobs and moist hand towels. Poolside food and beverage service was pleasant and efficient. Part of one of the towers can be seen from the pool. The pool is situated one level below the spa/health club facilities so guests need to walk up and down a metal staircase to the pool. Not the safest or most convenient access design.
The Health Club: Seemed to be used a lot by local members and had all the standard equipment and weights one would expect. The men and women lockers have small steam and dry saunas and the facilities are clean.
Service: The level of service provided by the employees is average, but pleasant. There was nothing outstanding or special like we received on a previous KL visit where we stayed at the Mandarin Oriental (stay there for high level service). Stay here for location if you are there for the sights and shopping. The Crowne Plaza is most certainly good quality value for money!

“Fab location but bed is very very hard”

Crowne Plaza Kuala Lumpur

Had a small hiccup when I checked in at the hotel, the tour operator had cancelled my reservation!!. I found this very strange when a couple of days before hand, I had specifically rung the hotel directly to confirm my reservation and all was fine. But when I checked in, they couldn't find my reservation. I strongly suggest if you are ringing the hotel to confirm your reservation, do get the hotel's confirmation number of your reservation when you check in rather than the travel agent's confirmation number as they are diferent Luckily enough, I had a hotel voucher with me which means they had to honour my reservation.

Besides the hiccup of my reservation, the location of the hotel was terrific, monorail is right in front of hotel and you can walk to KLCC within 10 minutes.

Room was very big and spacious, had a corner room but the bed is very hard so I did not get a good night sleep at all for the 5 nights. It really felt like sleeping on a concrete floor!! If the beds were a bit softer and more comfortable, I would come back to this hotel.

“Amazing hotel”

This is a great hotel! We stayed for three days and two nights and loved every minute of our stay. The hotel is right in the city centre and the shopping centres and tourist attractions are all easily accessible.

Our room was on the 19th floor and the view was amazing. The room was spacious, comfortable and luxurious. The hotel facilities were also fabulous - the swimming pool was lovely and inviting and overlooked onto the Petronas Towers. All the staff we met were helpful and friendly.

The buffets in the restaurant had a huge range of choices and the food was delicious.

Will definitely be going back when we are next in KL!
