We stayed at the Crowne Plaza in KL at the start of a 10 day trip to Malaysia and Indonesia. We arrived in the early afternoon and checked in with no problem. While the hotel was on the Monorail, when we got to KL Sentral, we couldn't figure that out ("connection" was across the street) so we took a cab. The hotel was very well located - within walking distance to Petronas Towers and tons of restaurants. The monorail station was right in front, which was really great. The room was well furnished in contemporary Asian style and we were on the 18th floor (on the opposite side from the Petronas Towers unfortunately but still had a nice city view). The breakfast was good and the staff was particularly friendly and helpful. We'd definitely stay there again!

We book hotel via hotel website. Checked in on 31May07 & checked out on 03Jun07 with hubby & 2 kids (6 & 8 yr olds).
Room was a grand deluxe on the 16th flr, big king size bed with plenty of room for extra bed for my elder boy. But room facing the construction at the next building so very disconcerting. Must always remember to draw the curtains, or else workers get to see everything!
Bathroom was a good size but the shower room tend to flood after every bath. Hmmm...nice rain shower too.
Aircon was working with nice quiet blast of air.
Very clean room overall. Very polite staff as well.
We had free breakfast for all the mornings. Part of the package.
Only downsides were the following :-
1) No covered walkway to the train station - Raining very troublesome
2) Pool quite pathetic for such a nice hotel
3) Waiting time @ the front reception was long as check in & check out at the SAME counters.
4) No clear check in / check out counters. Not very wise for traffic flow. Frustrating for everyone.

My husband and I spent 2 nights here in early May. It was fantastic from the moment we went inside. The staff were terrific. I had done some research on the trip advisor, so it was suggested that we ask for a room with a view of the twin towers. I asked and was immediately given a room with the best view. Nothing was too much trouble. The location was fantastic with a monorail stop right outside the front. The buffet breakfast was one of the best I had seen. The lounge with live music was good. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone staying at KL. Late May, we stayed at the J W Marriot (see review) and I wish we had booked the Crowne Plaza for those nights instead.

We stayed for 2.5 days in Malaysia on our way back to Australia from Europe after a six week holiday.
By comparison with what we paid for European hotels (Rome, Paris, London even Edinburgh) anything in Kl is going to be a bargain. Crowne Plaza was fabulous.
We arrived early (10 a.m.) and our room was available straight away. So this was a big plus. We also enquired about late checkout on our last day as our plane did not leave until 10 p.m.
This was possible but cost MR200 (maybe $AUD 70) for checkout at 6 p.m. All we actually received for this was being allowed to use the room nothing else, the bed was not made up and towels not replaced, though we did ask for two more from the boy on the floor.
Having said that the hotel is great (see previous reviews) certainly the best and largest room I have ever enjoyed...with large bath and shower, good writing desk and lovely chaise and withdrawal area. The bed was fantastic. Air conditioning was above average for Asia
It didn't bother us terribly much but the hotel could do with double insulation of windows not so much because of heat but because of noise. There was never a moment when you were not aware of traffic noise and during the day there was a lot of building noise.
The pool is OK, but totally lacks atmosphere and at midday is like a desert with the sun beating down and no shade...it could do with a sensible hand for landscaping.
We got very lost on the first attempt to venture into the city, and probably it would be good to have proper maps arther than schematic diagrams which do not actually tell you where to turn left or right.
We eventually discovered we were in a great position, once we had worked our left from right.

“Excellent Hotel”

Crowne Plaza Kuala Lumpur

3 Jun 2007

Stayed here for 3 nights in April 2007.

Room was fantastic, great views of the city skyscrapers. Everything was in perfect condition. Very nice and new furnishings, great shower (with seat!), bathtub with shutters which can be opened into the bedroom, bathrobes, and plenty of space.

Only gripes: the corridor is quite long and dark and also the room could do with one strong overhead light, which is useful when you are packing your cases, in addition to the various lamps. The bathroom door is a sliding door, and must be locked in order to stay shut.

Breakfast was great, with an enormous selection of American, Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese, European food, everything you can imagine. We spent 4 weeks in Malaysia, and stayed in Hiltons and Renaissance hotels, but this was definitely the best breakfast buffet.

The pool area is well designed, with comfortable sunbeds and quality sunbed covers and towels. The pool attendant is very helpful. There is a construction site behind it, which was a bit noisy. There is a view of the Petronas Twin Towers from here - make sure to check it out at night too, as it is spectacular when illuminated.

Concierge was very helpful, with tips about visiting the Twin Towers (best time to go, how to get there) and saved us from a fruitless trip across town to the KL Menara tower for dinner by informing us in advance that the restaurant there was booked out for the next 3 days.

Ideal location for shopping (1 stop by monorail to Bukit Bintang) or a 10min walk via rear entrance to KLCC (more upmarket shopping center) and Twin Towers. Monorail stop is directly in front of the hotel, with great access to the rail network.

With regard to the various hotel bars and restaurants, we found it annoying that the information in the hotel bedroom did not included copies of the menues (not even the information about breakfast price). This would have allowed us to browse through them at leisure and decide where we wanted to eat/drink. Instead you would have to walk into each bar/restaurant and try to get a look at the menu before an eager staff member appeared wanting to escort you to a table, which I always feel puts you under pressure. I feel that the hotel is missing out on business by doing this.
