This is clearly a hotel for those who love the "old times" style. The hotel has a rich history and this can be felt in the public areas and the old wing rooms. The colonial atmosphere is nice and authentic, all rooms are spacious and those on the bay side are definitely the better ones. Imagine seing the ferrys and cruise ships at arm's length in front of your window! Caution - not all rooms can be fitted with broadband access. The only downside is the level of the general infrastucture - pool area, restaurant etc are still somewhere in the late 70ies (filippino style) which can be amusing but is not to everybody's liking. The quality of breakfast and food is average. The most attentive and friendly staff make up for any shortcomings in other areas. This hotel is a great place to start or end your Philippines experience with. For pure business travellers there are more generic and perhpas more appropriate hotels in town (mostly in Makati). Stayed already at the Peninsula and the Shangri-La - both are high class business and tourist hotels in busy areas but lack the charm of Manila Hotel. Try one of the excellent fish restaurants in walking distance from the hotel on the bay promenade!
