“A hotel with style”

This is clearly a hotel for those who love the "old times" style. The hotel has a rich history and this can be felt in the public areas and the old wing rooms. The colonial atmosphere is nice and authentic, all rooms are spacious and those on the bay side are definitely the better ones. Imagine seing the ferrys and cruise ships at arm's length in front of your window! Caution - not all rooms can be fitted with broadband access. The only downside is the level of the general infrastucture - pool area, restaurant etc are still somewhere in the late 70ies (filippino style) which can be amusing but is not to everybody's liking. The quality of breakfast and food is average. The most attentive and friendly staff make up for any shortcomings in other areas. This hotel is a great place to start or end your Philippines experience with. For pure business travellers there are more generic and perhpas more appropriate hotels in town (mostly in Makati). Stayed already at the Peninsula and the Shangri-La - both are high class business and tourist hotels in busy areas but lack the charm of Manila Hotel. Try one of the excellent fish restaurants in walking distance from the hotel on the bay promenade!

“Great Hotel, even better service”

Manila Hotel

Don't be fooled by the exterior. Anybody who gives this hotel an unfavorable review has standards set too high. We found this hotel exceptional in the interior beauty as well as the highly qualified staff and outstanding service. Selection of food was excellent even though the pancake breakfast buffet at the Ilang-Ilang was served chilled. Who cares, right? The hotel is well worth the price. The Manila Hotel deserves the five star rating. Now we know why MacArthur lived there for two years.

“Our stay at Manila Hotel”

Manila Hotel

From March 31st 2006 until April 4th 2006, we stayed as part of our holiday in the Manila Hotel. The ambiance is great, classic and with style. The food/ buffet in the different outlets is great and the service as well. The waitresses and waiters are very friendly. The room (Deluxe)itself could use a refurbishment, because it is old! Though the rooms are spacious, and comfortable to stay in. We had a nice view over the famous Intramuros. The pool could also use a refurbishment, and unfortunately the bartender was sleeping 1 time. This was at 3pm. The girls at cashier desk (check out) are not smiling at all, treat you as if you are lying when saying you did not use the minibar, and they are way to serious. Due to this behaviour, I was upset, after I had a great feeling about my stay. There was no question like; I hope you enjoyed with us, and we hope to see you again, have a pleasant trip, ec, nothing like that, and I think, that your staff, should be the key to the success of the hotel. These girls could learn much more! Anyhow, I would recommend this hotel due to spacious rooms, and good food!

“Need to clean pool area”

Manila Hotel

We stayed at the Manila Hotel for two nights in October and found the room to be clean and very satisfactory with a nice view of Luneta Park. Service was polite and professional, but perhaps not as down to earth and friendly as at many places in the Philippines that I have been. Of course, the Manila IS an urban facility and I have spent more time in the provinces. No big complaint except that we found the pool to be quite green and beach towels from the previous night still on lounge chairs the following morning. My wife refused to get in. A short walk past the U.S. Embassy to the entertainment along Manila Bay is well worth it. I found the area much cleaner and safer than two years previous.

“Manila Hotel- Highly Recommended”

Our pleasant stay at Manila Hotel from Jan 1-3, 2006, was something to remember. The entire staff should be commended for their professionalism, paricularly the wait staff at the Ilang-Ilang cafe. The buffet had great selection for everyone's taste buds. The lobby is very welcoming, great ambiance! The location is great; with easy access to the US Embassy, Rizal Park, various ethnic dining areas, shopping centers and historical point of interests. We will definitely stay at Manila Hotel again.
