I was very leary about going to Peppertree as I knew how old the resort is. I used to go to Atlantic Beach about 25-30 years ago and saw Peppertree when it was new. Anyway, after reading some of the bad reviews, I feared the worse. Upon checking in, I continued to worry when my husband returned with good and bad news. The bad news was the unit we were placed in was not a renovated unit. The good news, we were right beside the indoor pool (we have 5 yr old twin boys who LOVE to swim). When we entered our unit, I was pleasantly surprised! Even though this wasn't a renovated unit (30D), it was clean and well kept. The entire property is well kept for its age. During our stay they put down new mulch and painted the boardwalk to the beach. It looks like the owners' maintenance fees are being used wisely.
Our unit was in a cluster that is the farthest from the beach. We actually loaded up our car and drove across the property to get to the beach (only to avoid whining from our boys). Our check-in/check-out day was Sunday. We were told the newly renovated and closer to the beach buildings are Saturday to Saturday. In case you've made a reservation and know your building number, here are the buildings that sit right across from the beach: 23 and 25 face the ocean, 20-22 and 24 are the other buildings that are close. Other than those, plan for a small walk (or drive). The buildings farthest away are: 26-33.
We stayed at the resort from May 20-27, 2007. The beginning of the week was very quite, barely anyone on the beach, no one in the pool. However, as the weekend approached, the resort started to fill up for the holiday weekend. However, it never felt packed and overwelming, even on the beach. The indoor heated pool was great, as the outdoor pools were still too cool for my boys to happily swim.
I recommend this resort. I would really like to see the newly renovated units if ours was not renovated. I'm sure they are very nice. Oh, and, they did an excellent job on their addition of the elevators. Makes lugging all your belonging to your room much easier. The resort seems to be doing a great job.
We would return. If you go, enjoy!

We stayed there for the last week in March and had lovely weather. Our unit was spotless and up to date .I loved the decor and furniture. We sunned on the balcony and swam in the heated pool. (indoor) and used the whirlpool ,it was great. There was a 5-8 minute walk to the beach and we could not see the ocean from our unit, as the resort is not right on the beach. There are many restuarants and shops nearby and Morehead City is just over the bridge. I would highly recommend this resort for an ocean vacation and there is golfing close by--a nice alternative to Myrtle Beach. There were planned activities for those who wanted . We also visited the NC Aquarium -just down the road from the resort. A great place!!
We (7 people) stayed at Peppertree from 2/17/07 to 2/20/07as a long weekend get away. The resort was not crowded as it was the off season, and this was just what we were looking for a quiet and relaxing time.
When we checked-in our reservation was for a 3 bedroom condo. Due to construction they put us in the newest building #33 with a 2 bedroom and 1 bedroom condos with adjoining doors. So we had 2 living rooms and 2 full kitchens.
The indoor pool is heated and clean. Its better to go into the pool during the day as pool room air temperature is warm from the sun shining on the glass. The outdoor hot tub (spa) was great. It was the first time I have ever been in a hot tub when the air temperature was cold.
The resort is a 2 minute walk to the beach. The beach was pretty much deserted just a few people with their dogs and some people were driving their trucks on the beach. It was great to go for a walk on the beach but the wind was pretty strong so dress warm.
The island is not in full swing. So restaurants are tough to fine open. We ate at the Channel Marker 2 restaurant. They have great snow crab legs and ribeye steaks. The Food Loin supermarket is real close to the resort, so we bought breakfast food and ate at the condo. Wings and Pacific souvenir stores are open during the day if you are looking for that kind of stuff.
The resort is clean and the condo's are well stocked with supplies. We would all stay here again, and wonder what it would be like during the on season.

When we checked into Peppertree, we had to clean the unit before our son, daugher-in-law, and grandchildren arrived because it was so filthy. We have traded our timeshare in Hilton Head many times--this one was the worst--it was old and dated which I can handle but dirt is another thing. Our grandchildren were very young 22 months and 2 1/2 months--we would not let them on the floor. Even after we cleaned, the place was scarey. Too bad because the location is great. At one time it might have been a very nice resort but it surely isn't now.
(Our unit was not the only dirty one--the people next door also had to clean-- they also had a small grandchild with them.)
