We dined here Nov. 2006 and are planning a trip to return to the area this fall and are looking forward to the excellent food and service again. My kids loved the t-shirts and wear them all the time.
My wife and I dined at "Skeeters" this week. She ordered one of the nightly specials which was a ribeye with rum glaze ($26). Half of the steak was fat and gristle. I had the crab cakes which were average. After complaining about the steak we were told the check would be discounted. They knocked a lousy $6 off the steak and apparently thought we should be pleased. The manager asked if we saw the discount but not if we were satisfied. We weren't and won't make the mistake of returning..
I've lived in Atlantic Beach for over 20 years, and we are actually pretty lucky to have some outstanding restaurants in the area. Tourists normally come to eat at the Sanitary, a huge, on-the-water spot famous for its views and history. Unfortunately, the food is not very good (lots of dishes are microwaved, and many dishes are literally fish sitting next to french fries with no frills) and worst of all, expensive!
Amos Mosquito's, while also expensive for the area, is a different story entirely. Food is beautifully presented, the little details are on-point (the sound of mosquitos buzzing from a hidden speaker in the bathroom is a great touch, each server wears a gas-station shirt with fake names embroidered like Bubba and Honey, etc.) and everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is absolutely delicious.
I probably sound like I have something to do with the place with this rave--I wish! They are doing great. Make sure to show up early on Thursdays (sushi/karaoke night) and the weekends. A joke around town is that you either eat at 5:30pm or 8:30pm. Showing up at 6:00pm will result in at least a 45 minute wait in the high season.
Enjoy!
Many of the dishes have some unusual combinations and flavors. Our food was excellent and a nice change from the mundane restaurant fare. Great food and we highly recommend.
