“Room was a utility closet, I swear!”

I can't believe this is advertised as anything resembling a "resort." Having decided on a last minute weekend at the beach we booked a room at the Oceana. Upon arrival we were shocked. Do families really stay here? Our room (as all of the rooms are) was entered directly , I mean directly (3 1/2 ft) from the parking area! Our view was of the front bumpers of the cars at the "resort." The entrance was a sliding glass door with one side boarded up. No windows just a 4x7 ft. sliding door, no daylight unless we wanted all passerbys on the "porch" (walkway) to look in. And they did, but were friendly enough to greet me through the glass. There were some plastic stackable outdoor chairs, unfortunately (ha) none for our unit! Too bad 'cause that cheap charcoal grill located between the parked cars WAS tempting! The "double bed" was a 3/4 and since the sheets were double, when laid on they popped off and rolled with us towards the center. Our feet hung off the bottom. One extra pillow, flatter than the stringy threadbare blanket. The T.V. was 14 inch; the "couch" taken off the back of a bus, I swear! Vinyl, stained, and bolted to the cinderblock wall. The dressor was neat-2 ft wide- and the mirror sure made us look thin. Not only was the ocean not seen, it wasn't heard, or smelled, but the neighbors sure were! 'Course the view of the parking lot ( the spaces are very, very, narrow, but the trick mirror mentioned above gave us hope of getting in and out of our car) was partially blocked by everyone else's towels, swimsuits, and sundries, strung from sagging ropes outside the doors. The bathroom was small, when one sat on the toilet one's nose almost touched the opposite wall, no kidding. I know you get what you pay for but at 110.00 a night I feel we paid for a little bit more. It was very clean though. Didn't stick around to try the complimentary breakfast, shock takes away one's appetite. Refusing to stay in a dark cell, I called 8 motels and finally found one to salvage our trip. The staff was very courteous though.

This was my first trip to the Atlantic Ocean, we had drove 7 hours, it was worth the trip. I loved the hotel being so close to the ocean. I got up early to watch the sun come up from the peir and was greeted with such friendliness by the staff. The beach is beautiful and I would not trade my experience with anyone. We will be back this summer. I hope to see you there!!!

My family - Husband, Wife, 16 and 14 year old boys, have just returned home from a five day, four night vacation at the Oceanana Resort Motel. We had a GREAT time. The motel that we have stayed at for the past nine years every summer, has been torn down, so we made reservations at the Oceanana this year. We were shocked when we arrived and seen all of the activities for the children to do. We regret that through all the past years, that our two sons have missed all of this as they were growing up. They still had things for our 14 and 16 year old to do also, but alot of things for younger children. They have a very nice pool with plenty of chairs around it and the pool was VERY clean. Everyone there was very nice. The motel of course is an older one, so therefore the rooms are older, but they are very nice and ours was in very good condition. We had a window air condition unit that cooled our area excellent. Every area is extremely clean. Employees are continually walking around picking up anything that anyone has thrown down instead of using the trash cans, that are sitting everywhere. I asked where the ice machine was and the guy offered to go get it for me, but I said that's okay and he showed me where it was. They have alot of vending machines. They have free coffee available all the time. They have chairs, straight, lounge chairs and rocking chairs sitting around everywhere. The beach area is marked private for the guest only and they have chairs that you can use to lay out in the sun, or to sit up straight, and they have large nice umbrella's to sit under if you want to. The staff will move them to a different position or area for you if you would like to. I was so glad that I did not have to drag my personal chair down to the sand to lay out in the sun. They also have an area on the grass before you step onto the sand with padded chairs to lay out in the sun. Each morning they have a free outdoor breakfast. We were shocked at the large variety of choices to choose from and as much as you would like to get. They had boiled eggs, several types of fresh cut up fruit, cheese cubes, several choices of cereal, FRESH donuts, glazed and white powdered, cinnamon rolls, pretty whole bananas that you peel yourself, grits, oatmeal, coffee, milk, 2% milk, chocolate milk, orange juice and two more types of juices, containers of fruit cups, yogurt, and I have probably forgot a few more items. Most of the time, a free breakfast is a donut and a cup of coffee at other places. The pier house serves meals, if you prefer a country plate of food, bacon, sausage, ham and etc. We tried it also, only one morning, and it was very good. The people there are also very nice. The housekeeping personal are very nice and very thorough when they clean your room. We stayed in a ocean view room and we LOVED it. I can't imagine or think of anyone that would not like the Oceanana except a millionaire that expects a servant to stand at their door 24 / 7 or a person that expects to sleep in a brand new room that has never been stayed in before or a person that does not want to see a child. I will mention that if the children do not put up the game or toys that they were playing with, immediately a staff member picks it up and puts it back in place. There are signs posted about no loud noise and running and etc and it was fine. There were no children running around crazy. Just nice families with children playing very nicely. It was very quiet at night, no one outside shouting or running around. I did notice that they have "Smoke Free" rooms also. I could sit here and continue to write more, but I think that I have said enough to state the fact that we LOVED our stay and we will return there each summer. We pray that the Oceanana will continue to remain there. I see the terrible comments on this site, and most of them as you can see, are about the air condition and the building not being brand new. Like I stated above, our room had a window unit and it worked excellent. As for the building not being brand new, it has been there for years and that should speak for itself, they stay booked and they can't rebuild each year. It is kept up very well and had nice beds, televisions and etc. I recommend the Oceanana to everyone. Mrs. DeLaine Rigsbee in Durham, N.C.

“Absolutely Terrible!”

We planned a trip to Atlantic Beach and was going to attend the Tall Ships Sail in nearby Morehead City / Beaufort area. We (there were 2 families going together) found this Family Resort that offered nightly rentals so we decided to stay there! The outside views are decent but notice they do not show any close up views of the outside of this hotel nor do they of the inside and the bathrooms in the rooms for this place. If you don't have any standards this would be a great place for you. If you do have standards of any sort really DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL ~ Camping would be a much better option ~ if I had a tent and camping supplies with us we would have done that instead. Unfortunately, I didn't have a few hundred dollars to spare to spend on duplicate camping items while we were there, there was NO availability ANYWHERE else and the house was too far away to drive back and forth from! If you still choose to stay here ~ don't complain later about it ~ I learned my lesson and stayed MISERABLE OVER JULY 4th!!

“Good place for a family. But... customer service is D-”

My family had always stayed at this resort since I was a child. After I graduated school we didn't go for a few years. But we all got back together this year & took a trip. Well, I can't say I don't like it b/c I do. What I can say is the staff is not so friendly. Like I said I have been many a time b4. Well, this time was different. We had a problem with the air circulation in our room. I called the office many times to have to problem fixed. they came up & opened the valve. No difference. I called a few hours later. not sure what they did then or the next time i called. Well they finally brought us a fan. That wasn't what I was expecting them to do. All the fan did for me was circulated the hot air. Needless to say I was getting very frusturated. It was 92 degrees outside & hot in my room as well. The office staff really ticked me off. So sunday when I went to check out I let them know how displeased I was. The complaint went in one ear & out the other!!!! Since Mr. Cooper passed on the business has gone downhill. Maybe I didn't get to talk to the right person. In return I rec'd no compensation, nor was there ever an attempt to offer to switch us to a diff room. And If someone working there reads this article & says they were booked then I can say that is not true. I was standing in the office sat & someone walked in to see what the rates were & if there was vacancy. And it was stated in front of me that rooms were available. I am not saying I will not go back b/c I have young children & they loved it. What I am saying is I feel like I could have been treated better.
