This was our first of many-to-come stays at the clamdigger. It was fantastic. If you are staying in a hotel instead of a beach house, the clamdigger is, without question, the place to stay. It is the nicest hotel in the area, w/ it's only real competition being the Sheraton (which upon inspection did not measure up to the clamdigger). The beaches are immaculate and you can rent a set of chairs and an umbrella for the entire day for only $8. This is a small price to pay to not have to fuss w/ the hassle of bringing your own chairs and plus you get the added benefit of the umbrella if the sun gets to be too much. The pool bar sells hot dogs for only $1 a dog if u want a quick mid day snack. The hotel restaurant is very good and has some nice views of the water. Another great restaurant that is nearby (about 7 miles away) is the Channel Marker. It sits right on the water as you come over the bridge from Moorehead city to Atlantic Beach. Their views of the intracoastal waterway and ambience can't be matched. If you go to the Channel Marker, get the crabcakes....they are one of their specialties and are the best crabcakes i had ever tasted. Finally, if u get the chance, i highly recommend going across the bridge to Beaufort. It is a beautiful little town with some unique shops and lots of charm. VERY IMPORTANT: You have to have lunch at the Beaufort Grocery Co. It is on queen street. It is FANTASTIC! Great atmosphere and cuisine to match. If you've come this far, then maybe your willing to come a little farther. The cape lookout lighthouse is only a short way off from beaufort. It is on an esentially untouched island that has some of the most beautiful beaches in the area. It makes for a nice day or a nice couple of hours. For $10 per person (adult fee) you get a fun boat ride (15 minutes) over to the island and pickup whenever u desire. Most of the ferry services to cape lookout leave from Harkers island. Enjoy your stay.....i hope this info was useful.
