Just got back from a couple of very relaxing days at the Windjammer. I only live about 45 minutes away and this hotel makes a great quick get-away for me. The prices, in the off-season, cannot be beat. I always find the staff to be very helpful and friendly.

If you're looking for a 5 star hotel, this may not be the place for you. BUT, if you're looking for a nice, oceanfront hotel, you should give it a try. I have read some of the reviews that relate the there needs to be some updating done. Anyone who has spent much time around the ocean knows that the constant salt air will erode things very quickly. The Windjammer is constantly trying to keep things in good repair. I'm sure it's a never-ending task.

My one regret about this hotel is that it doesn't have wi-fi. I spoke to the manager about it and he explained that they tried to do it but were advised by the consultant that, due to the concrete wall material, that reception would be somewhat less than satisfactory.

I hope to have a few more quick get-aways before the prices go up in the summer.

“January stay at the Windjammer Inn”

Windjammer Inn

13 Jan 2008

I stayed at the windjammer January of 2008 and was very pleased. It is an older hotel and the wall paper was peeling on one spot in room. However overall the room looked updated and clean. Excellent view from the fourth floor. I don't think I would book a second story room, the dunes might be in the way of the view...not sure though.

We were recently at Atlantic Beach for the Seafood Festival and stayed at the Windjammer Inn again. Once again we had a great time. We had a full oceanfront room for $100 per night which seemed to be about the best around because of the busy weekend. It appears they have done remodeling-new deck. This is now the place we stay when we are in Atlantic Beach

“Are They Nuts?”

Windjammer Inn

We travel quite a bit so we always check with tripadvisor on a location we will be staying at. The reviews for this hotel are so over rated or these people have never stayed at a 3-4 star hotel. When we called the staff they told us that yes, coffee machines in the rooms, refrig and micro wave, wi-fi, nice rooms, etc... Well, the coffee machine is in the lobby if you call it a lobby and you'll be lucky if it's full. Their is NO WI-FI, the rooms wall paper was peeling off the wall. The bath room light look like someone had spit all over it (never cleaned), the rooms smell like mold, musty-mild dew. Tons of deodorant is used to mask the smell. The wading pool looked like it had not been cleaned for weeks. I spoke with the manager about putting coffee machines (small expense) in the rooms and he told me the management would rather spend money on the outside. Couldn't tell that by the way it's kept up. We left after one night and moved to the hotel next to it and we'll say we went from a 1 star to a 3 star. If your used to low budget hotels and your expectations are a 0 out of 5 then by all means stay at the Wind jammer. The only good thing is it is ocean front and every room faces the ocean, but that does not make up for the room conditions. They need a complete remodel and then it would make a 2-3 star.

“Not Great but Not Horrible”

We were with a group of four families and were just passing through and needed a place to stay for the night. I'm glad we only had to stay here one night. Pool and hot tub were nice, but you couldn't enjoy it for the mosquitos. This is not the hotels problem, but the abundance of mosquitos inside in the lobby, eleveators and hallways were. Beds were uncomfortable, but the rooms were fairly nice. The front hotel lobby staff was EXTREMELY rude! Like I said, we were one of four families, all had children, mostly ages 13 - boys. Because we had a 16 year old daughter with us, they wanted to charge us a higher price! I spoke with mgt and got the same rate as everyone else. (He was nice). Front lobby was closed from 11pm to 7am. For the $166 we paid, we didn't get what we paid for.
