“Nice AVERAGE hotel”

My family and I just stayed at the Windjammer Inn for the weekend and enjoyed most of our stay. From the 2nd floor up, all the rooms have a lovely oceanfront view and a small private balcony. We were on the 2nd floor and we could slide the curtains open and gaze at the ocean from every portion of the room. The hotel also is extremely close to a private sandy part of the beach, which was our favorite part. We actually walked down the beach a little to the area behind the Sheraton Inn and quickly realized that the beach behind the Windjammer is definitely the best. It's not crowded and the sand is smooth & soft. Besides the beach, the staff was helpful and friendly. There were only a few problems with the hotel. They need major updates in several areas. The bathtub was stained & the shower head had green and white rusty gross stains too. The outdoor hot tub was only warm and the water in it was oily. The couch in our room was questionable as well. It appeared as if it hadn't been cleaned in at least ten years. However, if you are going mostly for the beach and don't want to spend an arm and a leg, I would recommend this hotel. Despite the issues, it was an affordable and quiet place to stay.

Great location. A bit away from the busiest part of Atlantic beach. Very clean place. Shows pride of ownership. They have a swimming pool and nice landscape. Take the elevator down to the beautiful beach. It's within a few steps. The beach is next to a modest fishing pier and there were several surfers in the water. They seem to be building new rooms. Our room was spacious, well kept, very clean and everything in working order. They have one sink in the bathroom and one out by the entrance/colset area. Refrigerator, table with chairs, balcony with chairs and enough counter space. We slept very well. All rooms are ocean view and when we woke up, we opened our eyes to the majestic sea while still laying on bed. We loved it.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Windjammer, and we loved this hotel! The location is very convenient, right in Atlantic Beach, which is nice for side trips to Morehead City and Beaufort.
I was impressed with the room, which had updated and very tasteful decor (not the 80's style curtains and bedspreads that you sometimes see). The room and the bathroom were both clean, and the housekeepers were friendly and accomodating. The oceanfront balcony was truly wonderful, and we spent many hours out there when it was raining, which allowed us to still enjoy the beach and the ocean despite the weather. There is a great little refrigerator in each room, as well as a microwave. Coffee is available downstairs in the lobby each morning, and it was actually very good.
We enjoyed the smaller size of this hotel as compared to larger chains. It was definitely family-friendly, though we did not feel overrun with children. The desk staff was pleasant and we had no problems with anyone. We enjoyed the hot tub, though we didn't try the swwiming pool. The beach itself was lovely: soft sand, gentle waves, warm water, and not too many people.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone; families with children as well as couples or other groups of adults can all enjoy this hotel. We had a great experience at the Windjammer!

“Peace and Quiet”

Windjammer Inn

My husband and I stayed at the Windjammer Inn June 11-14. We had a hard time finding lodging in Atlantic Beach over the internet, and when we arrived in Atlantic Beach for the first time ever, we saw why. There are lots of condos there for big familes, and some two and three bedroom condos and time shares, but there are very few actual hotels around. There ARE a few hotels in the Atlantic Beach area. However, the beach is much nicer a little further down the island in Pine Knoll Shores and Emerald Isle. But the further down the island you go, the fewer the hotels. The Windjammer Inn is acutally in the Pine Knoll Shores area. There are 4 hotels in this area, and all book up in advance in the summer. There is the Sheraton (tall, looks nice, but no local flavor), the Atlantis Lodge (looks neat, with a little garden area and oak trees all around, but they let dogs stay there), the Seahawk (looked kind of run down, but they had neat hammocks on the lawn in front of the beach), and the Windjammer Inn.
The Windjammer is 5 stories high. The "glass elevator" is OK, but we stayed on the second floor, so we dIdn't get much use out of it. It was faster for us to just take the stairs. The glass side faces the parking lot, and that is what you see most of the time. If you ride all the way to the 5th floor, you can see the waters of the sound off in the distance. Nothing too special.
The Windjammer was very clean and pleasant. We never saw any bugs or roaches. We stayed in a King Bed, Jacuzzi room, which was really nice. It is a little pricy, though. Our room was about $200 a night, during the middle of the week, at the beginning of summer. A little steep, I thought. The room was huge, and so was the jacuzzi. It was just like the outside jacuzzi, but in the privacy of your own room. However, the room was on the second floor, so we could barely see the ocean from our balcony because the dune in between the ocean and the hotel rises up so high. Our balcony was not very private, because we were right over top of the pool. The upper floors probably have a better view of the ocean, and more privacy. The pool liked nice, medium size and fairly private, but we never got in it. We frequently saw staff cleaning up around the pool. A lot of people seemed to be enjoying the outside hot tub near the pool, but we never got in that either, since we had our own jacuzzi. You cannot see the ocean from the pool or the hot tub, again because of the height of the oceanfront sand dune. The staff at the hotel are very accommodating. The guy at the front desk even printed out mapquest directions for me to get back home because I mentioned to him that I had forgotten to do so. The maids clean the rooms and make the beds every day, and bring extra supplies as needed.

Our favorite aspect of the hotel, and of this particular beach area, was the peace and quiet. We never heard a sound while in our rooms, except the ocean waves. On Sunday afternoon, on a sunny day, we only saw about 10 other people out on the whole beach. At times we felt like we were the only ones vacationing in this area. The restaurants (THERE ARE NOT MANY) were all filled with locals. No crowds. Some people would be bored, because there is not much to do. But we were looking for privacy, and we found it. The water was unbelievable. Warm, and it had a slight Caribbean look to it, as it was light blue closer to shore, and then turned dark blue futther out. Lots of good shells. My husband found a sand dollar while in knee deep water. We have been to Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach, Daytona, and the Dominican Republic. We have never had so much privacy or found such pretty shells. We loved Pine Knoll Shores, and we will be back.

The Windjammer is an old hotel but very clean and mostly in good repair. The pool could use some repairing but it was quite enjoyable. The staff was nice and our view was good but a room above the second floor would have a better view. The kids loved it. We would definately go back.
