“They never answer the phone”

Avon Motel

I've called 5 times since Friday between 11:15 am and 3 pm and cant get them to answer the phone. No machine or voicemail and their website hasn't been updated since 03 so all 3 of the emails listed on the reservation contact aren't valid. Too bad since they are the closest to Hatteras lighthouse, but I will be staying somewhere else.

“The worst ever”

The motel was the worst I'd ever stayed in. We had a two-room unit with a small kitchenette. Particularly disturbing was that the smoke detector was in a drawer, not functioning, and the units were old and made of wood. I believe most units had stoves, so it would be really easy for someone who had had too much sun and beer to start a fire while warming up a midnight snack.. I went to the office to request a new battery, but the office was closed for the night by 7 pm. The cooking pans could not be used, as the non-stick surface was mostly scraped or burned off. We were concerned if we used them that the rest of the non-stick coating would end up in the food. And anyway, the room was so awful that eating there was really not an option. The back window would not stay open and the screens were shredded anyway, so even if we had propped open the window, flies would have swarmed in. The front window lock would not budge, so that window could not be opened. The TV did not have a remote (nor HBO as advertised). The pillows were of old shredded foam. I covered them with a folded beach towel to lift up my head a bit and to have something between the ancient pillow and my head. . The "towels" provided were hard and non-absorbent. There were no ice cube trays and the fridge barely kept things cold. The air-conditioner was extremely loud and was in only the front room, so even with the door to the other bedroom left open, the front room had to be freezing cold in order for the back room to be cool enough to sleep. The place smelled of mildew and I worried what bacteria and/or mold was being pumped into the air by the conditioner.

“Had a country feel on the ocean”

Thank goodness there are places like this left! Perfect location; ocean was right there; stores across the street; did not feel over run by all those large homes on top of each other. Sure it was not fancy but it had it's charm! It is not a resort but you are not paying resort prices. The people that ran the hotel were warm and friendly and had lots of ideas on were to eat.

Out bathroom was fine, it reminded me of a bathroom at a cabin - it was clean but plenty of hot water with a great shower.

Our room was clean - I did laugh when I saw the bed low to the ground but it was actually comfortable. Our room did not smell or have bugs as others mentioned . We did not stay on the pet side but I am sure those people are happy they can bring pets.

The ocean was beautiful --peaceful----I hope the Avon hotel is there when I return.

“Call the Exterminator”

Avon Motel

This place is about a 2 minute walk away from the beach. The bed is so bad that you can feel the springs poking you in the back. The bed sheets had stains on them. At night my wife freaked out and had to kill a 2 inch roach crawling all over the room. This place charged us $100 per night. My suggestion would be that someone rent a room via. a decent motel and just drive to Avon.

“Ugh! GROSS and OVERPRICED”

Well, first off we paid $100 more than what we were quoted for on the phone when the reservations were made. $40 of it were pet fees, I don't know what the other $60 was for and didn't ask (my fault). We stayed in room 20 (a pet room). The a/c was pitiful. It was so hot in the bedroom that I barely slept all night and there was only one window with a screen in that room. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable. The bathroom was tiny and the shower even tinier. Next to the sink was the shower with exposed pipe within a few inches of your face/body while standing at the sink. We found two roaches in the room. The refrigerator was not cold enough. The furniture was way outdated. There were no electrical outlets in the bathroom and none accessable in the bedroom. The only good thing about this motel is that pets are welcome. Would not recommend.
