Once I found the restaurant (Google maps had it on the wrong end of the street), I went up to the host's lectern only a couple of minutes late for my 6:00 reservation. The host was seating someone, but when she returned a very (shall we say "unpleasant?") woman rushed the desk and demanded to be seated first since she had arrived before me (she hadn't) and had a 6:15 reservation. I told her to just go ahead, since it was obvious she was far more important than I, and waited. The host came back, apologized and thanked for taking it in relatively good humor, and led me to a very good table. (I noticed the woman and her husband had a lousy table).
After that initial upset, I ordered a cocktail, and after some confusion over whether they had my usual whiskey) was served.
It's a good menu, with a lot of choices for a broad clientele, and I settled on the potato and arugula soup (which was superb) and the fried chicken breast -- very tasty and moist. Service was very good and attentive (though I never did get bread -- though I hardly needed it), and the price (by San Francisco standards) was dirt cheap.
Next time I'm in Ashland, I will definitely go back.
