“The Best Ever B & B”

What a relaxing three days! A nice, quiet getaway on scenic Lake Champlain. The Inn owners do everything to make sure your stay is a great experience. From the moment I drove in late at night, I felt the tension leaving my body. I was greeted warmly and ushered to a beautiful clean room with an incredibly comfortable bed. This was a quiet getaway for me but next time I'll be sure to bring my family as there are so many wonderful outdoor experiences for my kids!

“Beware cancellation policy!”

Barsen House Inn

6 Nov 2007

Nice clean house near Lake Champlain (not on the shores) in a flat farm-land area. Garden pretty but countryside not nearly as picturesque as around and in the villages of Vergennes, Middlebury and Brandon. Difficult to find at night (locals did not know of its existance, no illumination of the house signage). Beware owners cancellation policy of no refunds for board or meals (full or partial) within 14 days of booking!

“Best B&B I've ever stayed ini”

Barsen House Inn

19 Dec 2006

Barsen House was the best B&B we stayed in during a weeklong tour around northern Vermont. You simply cannot find nicer accomodation, warmer hosts, or more attractive environs. I recommended this establishment to my parents, too.

It's simply fantastic.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — beautiful house, great hosts...it was also fascinating to know that one of the owner-operators had handmade a great deal of the furniture.
    • Disliked — that we coudn't stay longer

The Barsen House Inn was the perfect romantic getaway for my girlfriend and I. The hosts, Peter and Daphne were friendly and accomodating, while the rooms were exceptionally clean and atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed.

The house and gardens are absolutely beautiful and the firepit was perfect entertainment for star gazing in the evenings. Breakfasts cooked by Daphne were especially unique with fresh eggs picked from the chicken coop next to the vegetable garden.

The views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Moutnains were exceptional and our room provided a beautiful picture window to watch the sunset.

We recommend this Inn for those traveling to Vermont for any venture!

“A wonderful, restful retreat”

Barsen House Inn

5 Sep 2006

We just returned from a too brief stay at the Barsen House Inn. We would have much preferred a full week with the lovely and charming hosts of the Barsen House, but busy works schedules did not permit for longer than 2 nights this time around.

We were welcomed by our hosts, Daphne and Peter and their guest-friendly animals, in an idealic setting just a short distance from Lake Champlain and Middlebury College. Daphne was wonderful to point us in all sorts of directions, from travel tips to where to visit to securing dinner reservations for us.

Upon our return back to the inn at night, we were again treated as part of the family, with an open door, a fire blazing in the firepit, and a basket of S'MORES makings by the front door.

Our room, with pillow top bed, was the moonlight room and did not disappoint, with plenty of space and our own bathroom, all accented with Peter's original furniture. We awoke in the morning to fresh coffee brewing, homemade pastries and muffins, and delicious home cooked selections including eggs, an apple tart, fresh fruit and more.

On our last morning, Daphne arranged for us to take a bird wataching kayak tour in a near-by preserve. Our guide, Jeremy, was a wealth of information on just about every species we encountered. This is not to be missed if you have a few extra hours to spare. We saw everything from bald eagles to a peregrine falcon, plus plenty of marsh birds, all complimented by Jeremy's knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject matter.

Thank you, Daphne and Peter, for making our stay a delight. We look forward to returning again in the future and sharing Barsen House with friends.

    • Disliked — I had no complaints at all.
    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Ask Daphne for help and guidance if this is your first trip to the area. And take a tour with Jeremy.
