We just returned from a too brief stay at the Barsen House Inn. We would have much preferred a full week with the lovely and charming hosts of the Barsen House, but busy works schedules did not permit for longer than 2 nights this time around.
We were welcomed by our hosts, Daphne and Peter and their guest-friendly animals, in an idealic setting just a short distance from Lake Champlain and Middlebury College. Daphne was wonderful to point us in all sorts of directions, from travel tips to where to visit to securing dinner reservations for us.
Upon our return back to the inn at night, we were again treated as part of the family, with an open door, a fire blazing in the firepit, and a basket of S'MORES makings by the front door.
Our room, with pillow top bed, was the moonlight room and did not disappoint, with plenty of space and our own bathroom, all accented with Peter's original furniture. We awoke in the morning to fresh coffee brewing, homemade pastries and muffins, and delicious home cooked selections including eggs, an apple tart, fresh fruit and more.
On our last morning, Daphne arranged for us to take a bird wataching kayak tour in a near-by preserve. Our guide, Jeremy, was a wealth of information on just about every species we encountered. This is not to be missed if you have a few extra hours to spare. We saw everything from bald eagles to a peregrine falcon, plus plenty of marsh birds, all complimented by Jeremy's knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject matter.
Thank you, Daphne and Peter, for making our stay a delight. We look forward to returning again in the future and sharing Barsen House with friends.
