We received a friendly welcome from our hostess who made sure we were familiar with the the layout of the B&B. Shown to our room and made aware of the amenities. Our room (The Goodwin Room) was lovely and very comfortable. We were intrigued by what appeared to be an upper back porch which one of the room's windows looked out on. If the weather had been warmer and drier, we would have loved to sit out there. The B & B is out in the country, very quiet, but convenient to Charlottesville and Monticello. The owners provide a great selection of teas and hot drinks with homemade cookies in the upstairs hallway. Unlimited cups of tea! It was a chilly weekend. The breakfasts were delicious and imaginative. The B&B has a swimming pool. There are several area restaurants, and the owners will make reservations for you. B & B located near several wineries offering tours. Owners couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We would definitely go back, if the occasion arises. There is a resident dog, but she was quiet and sweet and non-intrusive and seemed to understand that while we liked her, we are cat people!

It was a surpise trip made by my husband. He selected their B&B because of location and he picked the Jefferson room since we were visiting Monticello that weekend. After checking in I wish we could have stayed in the Goodwin Room......I really loved the decor! All pink and girly!! The owners were very nice and welcoming. The breakfasts were wonderful (she even had sugar free syrup just for us since we are diabetics). It was unusally cold that weekend and we even got snow unexpectly! It would have been a wonderful treat if the fire place worked. Our room was very clean and the way the linens are put on the beds (double flat sheets and two blankets in between) kept up warm yet very cool at night. Fresh HOMEMADE cookies each night was a nice suprise and treat. The dining room was a picture right out of Home and Gardens. Attention to detail was evident throughout the house. I would have loved to have known more about the house's history since that is a passion of mine. The grounds were well kept and well lit at night. I loved the satellite radio in our room . We had a lovely weekend and recommend it to others.

We only wish we had been able to stay more than one night at this lovely B&B. The innkeepers were welcoming, the house was beautiful, and the food was delicious (and accomodating to our vegetarian diet). Also, their listings for local restaurants, complete with guest review system, was one of the most comprehensive we've seen.

We are so pleased we decided to visit Virginia and not just Washington and New York on our very first visit to the US. Our choice of Afton Mountain B&B for a relaxing 3 night break made our trip just perfect. We loved everything about it! Hosts Dan and Orquida made us so welcome and were helpful in every way, even providing a printout of the best route to our hotel in New York on leaving. Our room was charming and comfortable, the linen luxurious and the delicious breakfasts a treat.
The information on local restaurants was a boon and we would have liked to try more - and return to those we did visit!
The house is well positioned for visiting this beautiful area and we would have happily spent much longer there.

Dan and Orquida have done a wonderful job turning this into a successful Bed and Breakfast. Their location, 15 minutes outside of Charlottesville, means that there aren't UVA students running around everywhere, but it also means that they're close to a number of other cute Virginia towns. They really seem to enjoy meeting and greeting everybody, and creating delicious experiments for breakfast!
Best part - their dog has the softest fur! Definitely would go back to Afton Mountain.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — The location is somewhat out of the way, but it's convenient to more than just Charlottesville
