We loved our stay at the Hotel Studio do Carmo. Our room was perfect - spacious, clean, with lovely artwork and beautifully decorated; high ceilings, wood floors, and a wonderful view. Its location on a small street in the historic district of Pelourinho was ideal. The owners, Francesca and Max were warm, friendly, helpful and really took care of us. We would definitely stay here when we return to Salvador and highly recommend Studio do Carmo to all of our friends.

We stayed for two nights at Hotel Studio do Carmo. They also arranged our pick-up and drop off at the airport, with payment to them. We didn't know until we got there that we were going to have to pay cash for the room and transport which was kind of inconvenient. The rooms are up VERY narrow and steps that wind around. Not ideal for everyone. They will take your bags up and down for you. We skipped breakfast, but I guess they bring it up to your room, which also has a kitchenette, coffee and tea available to make. Our room (#3) faced the front street which was right over a large set of public stairs, so we could leave our windows open (people would be looking right in). Also, the street noise could be potentially bad (we had just missed the live music on Tuesday night that they play right out front, there was also a free movie shown on the stairs out front one night). No air conditioning, but a ceiling fan, which was fine. The Italian restaurant they recommended was very good. Our stay was fine, but for the money I think you could find something a little better.

The hotel was small, but quite pretty with nice rooms and good beds. The staff was very nice, and the breakfast was good. That said, this hotel has one big problem -- noise. It has no AC, which is fine in terms of heat. But you have to keep the windows open with the fan turned on to keep it comfortable. But just outside the widows are stray dogs that bark all night. And I mean all night! They woke me up every half-hour throughout the night. I got about three hours of sleep. The next day all they could say to me was that it was not their dog so there was nothing they could do. If you are a very heavy sleeper, then this is a good place. If dogs barking thirty feet from your bed might keep you awake, then avoid this place.
