We stayed at the Byblos Hotel in Buzios for 2 nights in January 2008. When we first checked in, the hotel looked promising - cute lobby area and great pool area with incredible views. We were escorted to our first room and it literally brought my travel companion to tears. There was mold growing on multiple walls, little black bugs in the bathroom, and it had a bizarre smell. I rarely complain to a hotel's management but we could NOT stay in that room for 2 nights. We politely informed the hotel staff of the problem and were escorted to the Hibisco room which was smaller but much much better. No mold, no bugs.
The location of the Byblos could not be better which is why I'm willing to give it 3 stars, even after the mold experience. It is about a 5 minute walk from town where you can find all the action. The views are spectacular from the pool area as well.
Restaurants to try -> Bar do Ze and Inexia (which is also a bar/lounge) and you definitely have to have crepes at Chez Mithcell (better crepes than you find in France!). The shopping is fantastic - check our Animale which is a local Brazilian designer (with a store in Sao Paulo also) for trendy woman's clothes.
