Pansion Crvendac is a small agroturism located in the town of Bilje, 5 km to the north of Osijek. Along with several other similar agroturisms in the area, it offers an excellent accommodation option for those wishing to explore the entire Baranja area, as well as the south-eastern corner of Croatia, on the border with Serbia. Bilje is right beside the unique natural reserve Kopacki Rit, which you can explore on foot, by bike or by boat. It's also very conveniently located in the vicinity of the town of Osijek. Other destinations you might want to explore are the towns of Sombor and Novi Sad in Serbia, Mohacs in Hungary, as well as Vukovar and Ilok in Croatia, both located on the Danube.
The rivers Drava (passing through Osijek) and Danube also offer plenty of opportunities for sun-bathing, swimming, boating, walking, and cycling. Cycling in particular is a recommended activity, as there are several excellent cycling routes in the area fo varying length and difficulty, most notably the Danube Cycling Route (cca. 50 km), and the Baranja Path of Peace (cca. 70 km) linking Osijek and the Serbian town of Sombor to the north-east. There are also numerous shorter routes around Kopacki Rit, between Bilje and Osijek, and in Osijek itself.
Pansion Crvendac is a Bed&Bike member, with the owner, Mrs. Marija, a cycling afficionado, offering to rent bycicles and organize cycling trips in the area. Larger groups can book half-board accommodation at the Pansion, while other travellers are offered a B&B service. Mrs. Marija is a warm, hospitable person who speaks good English, while her team also speak German.
Accommodation at the Pansion is based on three double rooms which share a huge bathroom, located on the first floor of the family house. Breakfast is served in a sort of winter garden, a room at the back of the house communicating with the wonderfully decorated garden sporting a lovely gazebo. The food is ample but basic, limited to local meat&sausage specialties, bread, butter, jam, cheese and coffee, but everything is excellent. Mrs. Marija serves you herself.
The entire house is decorated on a red-and-white theme, these colours being typical of the Baranja region. Everything is clean, linen and towels provided, and the rooms are comfortable, equipped with a TV and air-conditioning (for which you pay extra if you intend to use it).
Budget prices of accommodation starting from 40 euros per night for a double room with breakfast represent great value for money and afford a nice experience of staying in a rural area and yet being close to many interesting destinations.
