Just returned from RAM after a two week stay. We have traveled to Egypt many times and chose this hotel because of the excellent reviews on trip advisor, however we do not think it truly reflects what you actually get
The hotel is very large and the service is faultless, we received brilliant service from the staff there and we really feel that is the reason for the higher ratings on trip advisor.
We had booked a pool view room and had emailed the hotel a few weeks before to request a room on the top floor. We did get our request but it was hardly a pool view as you had to lean over the balcony to even see the pool around the corner (room 1832). The safe did not work and the shower control tap broke off however these were both fixed immediately when we asked for it. The towels are quite shabby and way too small, the main issue we had with the room was the inter-connecting door as the guests in the other room smoked from 4am and the smoke drifted through the door in to our room which we felt was unacceptable for non smokers to stay in these rooms. We should have asked to move but we did not want to re-pack everything again and the upheaval of it, thankfully the guests left after 9 days so we could enjoy a normal smell again. The hotel really needs to consider all guests and not put non smokers in rooms with these doors in place. The balconies are very open so you do not have any privacy at all
We quite enjoyed the concept of choosing your food from any of the restaurants and sitting where you liked and the food was always hot which was a bonus as normally in Egypt the food is lukewarm. We are not fussy eaters and we found the food was best in the Chinese restaurant, the one criticism we would say is that we feel 9pm is too early to close the restaurants and we seen a lot of guests caught out by this and heard many people complain about it, you could eat in the Italian until 10pm but it didn't offer a wide selection of food in there. We both got bored of the breakfast as the variety is not what we have experienced in other hotels. There is no fresh fruit only a fruit cocktail in syrup, no bacon or poached eggs and exactly the same choice of hot food every day, I feel they could have changed this over the two weeks. They do however serve fresh croissants which we extremely good. I do wish other guests would respect the food and the way its handled, if there is a cloth to hold the bread then please use it not your bear hands, picking up food to smell and putting it back is disgusting, both my husband and myself were ill with bad tummy's for the entire holiday and this doesn't help at all when you see others treating food this way. We wish they had an ala carte restaurant that you did not have to pay such high prices for, especially charging for drinks!
We were both disappointed by the lack of available water, you get two small bottles in your room every day and then there is a dispenser at each bar but it runs pathetically slow so you have to wait for ages to fill a glass. We would recommend others to take your own plastic glass for the pool area as the drinks are served in the tiniest of glasses and the barmen were always happy to fill these for us
My husband used the gym as he does at all resorts and was disappointed with the size of the gym as the space is quite restricted, the equipment was tired, dated but functional with the exception of the bench which he felt was dangerous due to the faulty pad. There was a good selection of free weights but they had no water facilities in there which is needed due to the lack of air conditioning
The nightly entertainment was very much for the Russians in the Irish bar, we had one night when we were asked to leave as my husband was wearing tailored shorts, I pointed to other guests also wearing shorts sat with there drinks but they were Russian!!! I asked to speak to the manager to which a man came and shown me a notice at the entrance stating so shorts but when I pointed out that the restaurants also state this but they allow other guests in with sport shorts so why are they only enforcing it now to which he stated he spoke no English! We wouldn't have minded so much as my husband always wears trousers and only wore these tailored shorts that night due to the heat and it was in our second week there and we had seen nearly all other guests wearing shorts every night in the bar. We met some other guests who were actually asked to leave the bar by the Russian animation team member as it was for Russians only, they were fuming and would not leave demanding to see the hotel manager. We are all paying guests which should be treated equally
The relaxation pool was nice and Mahmoud there was very good and looked after us every day, we feel it would be better if they enforced the meaning of the word relaxation and stopped the rowdy guests when they are dive bombing, splashing everyone, screaming and shouting and this was just the Adults (again the Russians) and they should make it an adult only pool. The good point was there was always plenty of beds to choose from. The pools are colder than other hotels we have stayed in
My husband also caught a cold whilst there and actually lost his voice, the staff showed genuine concern for him and could not do enough, all the waiters were fussing over him and the guy from the coffee bar went out of his way and went to the kitchen to make a hot drink of lemon, peppermint and honey which was not asked for but was gratefully appreciated. The staff are an asset to the hotel. Mustafa Hamdy looked after us every night with our drinks which I must say are not as bad as other reviewers state they are. The wine and beer is good and we both enjoyed the vodka and Cuba Libras. Other staff to mention who were just fantastic were Sharky with his charisma, smile and efficient service, Saad (aka Manuel from Faulty Towers) who was so cheerful, polite and looked after us every night in the Irish bar, Bashoy and Mahmoud at the relaxation pool who always insisted on us going back to our seats so they could bring drinks to us, we could go on and on about how good the staff are
Overall we had a good holiday due to the staff being so good and by enjoying our own company, I do not think we would stay here again but I would recommend to others if they found a good deal for it. The facilities at the Hilton Sharks Bay and the Sultan Gardens in Sharm were superior however the staff here match if not exceed the service at the other resorts
Take plastic thermal glasses for the pool and email the hotel to request a certain room. Pound coins...

Dear Sir or Madam,
Report response as inappropriate
Thank you for your kind comments and invaluable critique of your recent stay with us. We value all of our guests and their comments and take on board all relevant items that can help us move forward the quality of our service delivery.
We offer a variety of rooms, from “promo” promos - which are our best value rate - to some of the best Red Sea views rooms in Sharm el-Sheikh. We also have pool view, family rooms and a selection of luxurious suites.
Any issues that any guest have with rooms need to be reported to reception, who will be happy enough to relocate you to a new and more suitable room.
We are sorry that you felt our variety of food available during your recent stay was insufficient. To be fair, whilst recognizing and valuing your opinion, we were somewhat shocked and bemused to hear this. Food is available for our guests 24 hours each day from our many restaurants. If we try to count the items of food offered each day then the total is in the thousands. We offer food varieties originating in the cuisines of the home countries of pretty much all of our guests. We offer dozens of meat dishes, fish dishes, countless varieties of vegetables, pulses, vegetarian dishes, etc. We offer tempting kids meals and we meet the dietary needs of those requiring special eating regimes. Room service is constantly available as are snacks from all the pool and beach bars. Also we do have a late night buffet every evening serving a wide range of hot and cold foods from 10 pm - 12 am.
Whilst not wishing to be contentious, we cannot help but feel that if you will consider the situation of any hotel or restaurant you may have visited, the menu at any of them cannot be infinite but is to some degree restricted. However, were we to publish daily a menu of all the food items available in this hotel, we would be providing you with the biggest and heaviest menu you will have ever encountered. We remain exceptionally proud of our kitchens, our restaurants, the value for money we offer and the sheer variety of food provided to our valued guests. And remembering that we are in an Islamic country were pig products are mostly unavaliable. We do provide all food with cutlery to meet with our high Health and Hygine standards in all our resturants.
We were very sorry to hear that whilst in Egypt you experienced an upset stomach. Experience of most travel companies with travelers that have experienced such maladies in Egypt suggests that the most common cause is actually not food related but is sometimes caused by the inappropriate use of the desalinated water that flows from our taps. Please remember, this is a desert country and we desalinate (remove the salt by process) from the sea water for use in our plumbing. The end result is fine for bathing but should not be consumed – not even to clean your teeth. This why we are so very generous in supplying all our guests with bottled drinking water, usually far in excess of their likely usage. The changes of climate guests experience are often part of the problem which is why when a guest in Egypt gets such a complaint, it most often early on in their holiday not later in their stay once they are acclimatized. Food Hygiene standards in our kitchens are extremely high and in some ways exceed the standards in some European countries. We are regularly inspected by the travel companies who look after the guests they bring to our hotel. Staff are trained and well supervised and on no occasion to date have we ever been made aware of any illness suffered by a guest that is in any way attributable to our standards or food provided. We are always delighted to assist a guest who has problems of any kind and we have both a doctor and pharmacy on call for any guest who becomes affected by illness or accident.
I am sorry and very shocked to hear that your Husband was not happy with our gym which has all the latest technolgy and equipment, that is all checked for health and safety purposes on a regular basis.
All our guests are welcome throughout our establishments as long as they follow the dress code, stated on the entrance to our venues.
We offer a much better value for money compared to the hotels you have stated.
Our room rate and all inclusive concept is possibly the very best value for money 5-star offers in Sharm el-Sheikh. We offer numerous dining options, 24-hours snacks, high quality drinks and all the features and services of a 5-star hotel. Many guests return to us again and again as our the value for money at our resort is irrepressible.
The Royal Albatros Moderna has been awarded 5-stars by the Egyptian Tourism Board and we are regularly critiqued by the board to keep our standards high. We have also recently won the hotels4u Best Seller award thanks to our huge numbers of repeat guest bookings - almost 40% - which is unheard in any International hotel.
We hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you to our hotel once again in the future and at which time I look forward to speaking with you and personally ensuring your next holiday will exceed all your expectations.
