We booked this holiday through Thompson, and have to say that their customer services department really do leave a lot to be desired, especially as it is a call centre in the heart of India which isn't helpful when trying to rectify a mistake that had been made with one of the titles of passenger. Anyway, the plane was as expected, cramped and full to bursting. I've flown other budget airlines, one of which has a lot of orange on it and that felt like business class compared to the Thompson flight. Come on guys, it's a long flight to Sharm and even animals in trucks have more room!!!
So arrived at the airport, we didn't use the Thompson coach as I had an Egyptian friend meet us and take us to the hotel. I would advise if you are quite tired and really just want to get to the hotel, the taxi's are very reasonable, just make sure you negotiate a price before you go and tell the Thompson rep that you are not going with them.
Arrival at the hotel was good. Reception staff were very professional and welcoming. There was a problem with the rooms as they were not on the ground floor or near to each other, so Ahmed on reception offered to show us two new rooms. They were fine and within the hour it was all sorted.
The rooms were a bit small. I was in a family room and I have to say that I have stayed in other hotels in Sharm and the rooms were much bigger and only designed for two, so I think that that could be addressed. The rooms also looked very tired and are in need of an overhaul.
The restaurants are very good. The food is good and kept hot. The service stations are very clean and all food is kept stocked up by the chefs. Special hello to Mohammed who made me an omelette most mornings and gave me a three minute Egyptian Arabic lesson. I have come on in leaps and bounds with the language ready for my next visit! All staff in all the restaurants are very polite and friendly and work very hard. The only down side to all of the above is the cleanliness of the restaurant part. if you look under tables and in corners you will notice that it is not that clean and this could be the reason why there are so many flies in this area. The restaurant near to the beach is run very efficiently and the staff there are very friendly. A special mention to Ramadan Abd Elhakin, Nady and Mohamed Shahta. Thank you for keeping us entertained!!
The grounds of the hotel are kept very pretty and clean and I am loving the recycling bins dotted around - I hope when they are emptied that they stay separate!!!
The bar areas are pleasant enough, but I think a few more bar staff and waiters are required there.
Entertainment is what it is in Sharm, but have to say that Manchester and his team do a cracking job. They keep everyone entertained with their shows and they are very friendly and chatty during the day. Keep up the good work Manchester and don't be disheartened as you can't keep all of the people happy all of the time. See you in Pasha in November!!!
There is a small market area filled with boutiques and the like. The staff are very friendly and not too pushy. Yes they will try to sell but it is in no way as bonkers as Naama Bay. If you are indifferent to the hard sell and can barter your way out of anything then Naama Bay is for you.
You do really have everything you need on this complex, so you really don't need to venture out at all.
There are water parks here but it didn't look as though they were open, so can't really comment about them. They looked fun though, and they were situated on the Mirabel Park.
The spa is very modern and run very professionally and they do some good treatments. Don't go too mad though as the treatments are quite pricey for that part of the world.
All in all, I would recommend this hotel. The staff are courteous and professional, on the whole it is very clean and not that easy to get lost in, although it is easy for me to get lost as I seem to do wherever I go!
If there is one BIG problem I would say it is the issue with water. They will only give it out at the bars around the pool by the glass and if you want a bottle you have to walk all the way to the main bar which is by reception and they would only give us four at a time, which was a bit of a problem as we were a group of five.
The way to stay hydrated in the heat is to drink little and often, this is not easily done with a small plastic cup that can only be left in the sun to warm up. I know there is the potential for waste with these bottles but a lot of illness could be avoided if more water was provided.
