I would not say this hotel is up to the three star standard et all. Mold can be seen all over the shower area, especially on both the curtains. If lucky enough, you might see prominent marks on the other side of the wall. You can find all kind of marks on the bed sheet and pillow covers (technically, I would say that they are yellow). It is right on the side of the road, so it was difficult for me to have sound sleep at all. It is definitely not good for a family travelling with kids.
Here are my unique experiences:
Cleaning issue: for people with small kids, they do understand that kids need that afternoon nap. I normally took kids around in the morning, had lunch outside and then come back to the hotel for their afternoon nap. Unfortunately they have a stupid policy--no room cleaning before 12pm. After 1:30pm, it will be their staff lunch time. When we reached the hotel, the room was always a mess. We had to wait in the lobby for them to do the cleaning. The most ridiculous part was that even after I kindly requested the front desk to inform me when it was done they would not bother to do so. They were not shy from complaining when my kids were making noise while waiting.
Key issue: even we booked the room for five nights, our room key needed to be recharged every day around 12pm to make sure it is working. I could have checked out long time back if not because of their penalty policy and we all know this hotel is not cheap. The first day, after I came back from the beach with the kids, I put the kids (2&4 year old) in the shower. Since the room was not cleaned, there were no clean towers and I made a phone call for some clean towers. For quite some time, nobody showed up. I stepped out of the room for a second to see If I can quickly grab somebody to get the clean tower. The door accidently locked behind. Fortunately I had the key and unfortunately it did not work even though it was working ten minutes ago. I called the front desk using the phone near the fire exit. They might be fast, but the master key they have also did not work. Then they thought it was the battery problem, change the battery, try again, it did not work; ran downstairs, got another key, finally it worked. I was shouting on the phone hysterically while they were trying to get it work thinking what if something happened to my kids in the shower. The bathroom was flooded but unfortunately the kids were perfectly all right. If I knew more was to come, I could have checked out the hotel.
Staff issue: the staff may want to be helpful but they are very unprofessional. My son got sick during the trip. One morning, he was drinking the milk nicely during the breakfast then suddenly he said "I want to vomit". The next minute, it was all over the table, fortunately there was no table cloth. One staff was nearby but all he did was that pulling one nearby chair away from the table and running away as soon as possible. I tried to take my kid outside the restaurant and did some quick cleaning and comforted him a little bit. Watching through the window outside, I realised that the staff ran to get the manager to check the "crime scene". I did feel bad about the mess but these people did not make things easy on me. I still went back inside and apologised for it. The same person asked me wait and got the manager again. I said sorry. The manager's face said "what the hell". I never wanted to step into the restaurant again.
Phone issue: honestly speaking, I could not image a three star hotel without a single phone with long distance service until I stayed in Marigold. What a joke! I could not find my cell phone one morning. But I knew it was somewhere in the room since the kids were playing it earlier. I requested the front desk to call my phone and I stately very clearly I just need the ringtone to locate my phone. The answer I got was they do not have a sing phone that can reach any phone outside of GOA but I could find some phone in the city that could be used for long distance. Gosh! I walked into a restaurant across the bridge and asked if I could use their phone to inform my husband my situation. The waiter I was talking to just handed over his own cell phone for me to use. My tears almost came to my eyes! Shame on these people from Marigold hotel. They feel totally comfortable in seeing a lady dragging around with two kids in the middle of sunny day looking for a phone to call for help.
What a horrible experience! So stay away from this hotel. Travelling is drama. Kids will just make it even more eventful. And Marigold hotel will be one of the last places on the earth making you feel like home!
