Nice smallish resort - lovely beach in front, and food was so-so. Pretty poor breakfast, staff were great and friendly, especially with our baby. We were quite lucky with the weather, as it didn't rain at all in our quick 2 days there - which was good because if it rained, there is very little to do/see on Lanta in the low season. The rooms don't even have satellite TV, even though it is advertised (i have a feeling they don't pay their UBC subscription in low season due to low guest numbers) - they have only 3 thai channels with poor reception. The pool is very nice. would return, but not in low season.

“The Casuarina didn't really leave a lasting impression”

We booked this hotel after reading past reviews and all in all we can't really complain, its just that the hotel seemed a bit bland.

Good points:

Lovely pool, if a little small.

The beach is fantastic.

Ko Lanta is amazing.

Bad points:

Basic, blandly decorated rooms (we stayed in a deluxe seaview)

Basic blandly decorated hotel interior / exterior.

Cockroach problems - gaps in the balcony doors where they found their way in. I expect the bugs in Lanta, its part of the experience but in beach huts, not deluxe sea view rooms.

Staff were not fantastic.

So in conclusion the Casuarina was bland and average with both good and bad points. Next time I go back I think I'll stay in the beautful beach huts down the beach for 5 nights and finish off with a couple of nights in the beautiful Pimalai. That way you get the amazing island experience that is Ko Lanta coupled with a few days of luxuary... all for the same price that you would pay for a weeks stay in the Casuarina.

“A real treat!”

I really enjoyed our stay here. Despite being able to find cheaper accomodatiion on Lanta, this hotel was a treat. The room was lovely, very well decorated and quiet and private. The bathroom was super too, a lovely outlook and big bath. The pool and sunbeds are nice and have a good view of the beach. Unfortunately other overkeen tourists 'bag' beds with towels at the crack of dawn, however the staff are trying to discourage this!
Breakfast was pretty standard but the staff are friendly and polite. Only down point I felt there were a few too many children staying here for a very restful/romantic stay. Reception is quick to organise transfers or day trips. We booked a speed boat that picked us up from the beach (a 2 min walk from our room!) and took us to Phi Phi! I would definitely stay here again.

“Great Resort”

Stayed here for 5 nights in late February and had a great stay. The hotel is a perfect mid range hotel, great value for money. we had the first 3 nights in a 1st floor sea view room which is perfect and really makes the stay. The room was clean, very comfortable and cleaned daily.

The grounds of the hotel are extremely well kept and it has a very nice sized pool right by the beach. Reserving sunbeds is not a problem. They have a sign up now telling people that the sunbeds are for everyone and people are not allowed to reserve them by leaving towels on them. Everyone seemed to respect this rule as well which meant we were never unable to find a bed to lay on.

We didn't eat here apart from breakfast which was just fine with a good selection including an omelette chef.

The hotel does charge 17% on top of all listed prices but this seems to be standard in all 'Hotels' across Thailand. But then who wants to eat in the hotel when there are so many lovely bars and restaurants to go to.

it is just a 10 minute walk along the beach before you hit the bars/restaurants. there are plenty to choose from and we had good food in all of them. Also you can walk out to the road and turn right and there are lots of places to eat there.

If you want to book trips etc i would recommend going to any of hte little tour offices on the island as they tend to be cheaper.

My wife and I stayed at the Casuarina Resort on Koh Lanta for 9nts in Jan 07. This was the 3rd and final part of our tour. We booked direct with the hotel staying in a superior 1st floor room overlooking the sea with great sunsets.

We had a good deal with the Casuarina paying 2800 BHT a superior room for 2 people including breakfast. The hotel is situated on Long Beach, which has good sand, is quiet and safe with a few Resorts and beach bars along its length. The rooms are well equipped, the only problem being the bed linen was changed only once a week, the towels were changed daily but like the linen were well worn and thin.

We found the food very good, breakfast was varied and plentiful, both lunch and dinner were well presented and good value. Like a lot of hotels you had to be up early of a morning to get a sun bed in a nice position. It’s no good trying to blame the Germans as this seems to be commonplace amongst all nationalities. I think it’s time hotels made a stand against this practice as beds are taken with towels on them and not used all day.

The pool is of a good size and kept clean as are the gardens, we did notice some glass and bottles left lying on the grass from the previous night, with staff walking by them (not my job mentality).

The resident manager Molly is an elusive character, she prefers to stay in the background, and is seldom seen around the hotel, but prefers to stay in the office. We booked the hotel car for our return trip to the airport, paid and arranged a time to leave only to be told on the day of our departure that they wanted us to leave 2hrs early so they could pick up guest from the airport. This doesn’t seem much but when you have around 26hrs travelling in front of you the time counts.

If you want a change of scenery of an evening, a short taxi ride way up the coast to Klong Dhoa Beach is a good idea. With a bigger variety of restaurants and places to eat on the beach.
