Cottages
We stayed for two weeks: First in a cottage (one floor cottage, separate living/bedroom with door in between, but not view and terrace) for one night before “our” cottage was available, then in a deluxe cuttage (two floors – huge bathroom downstairs, large living/bedroom upstairs with terrace and sea view), and finally in the Sveti Stefan suite. Overall the cottages are all working well, each very different and beautiful. Given the differences, it is important that you get in touch with the resort before arrival to specify which things are important in order to find the right cottage.
Of the two normal cottages, the first one was more beautiful inside with stone walls and wood/high ceilings, while the deluxe cottage scored higher overall for us since it had the very nice terrace with great view and two loungers and table/chairs. The Sveti Stefan suite is the top suite of the resort, and is really great. We left it only for meals after moving in there! A complete little house within a large garden with private pool (can be heated), incl. a whirlpool, loungers, lots of sun all day, separate terrace for breakfast or sunset drinks. The house itself is really big with two floors. First floor is including complete kitchen, large living room with fireplace and separate dining/sofa areas and on top of this an extra bathroom with toilet and a steam shower. Upstairs is a small library and a large bedroom with sitting area, wardrobe and a beautiful bathroom with view to the sea. We had TV upstairs and downstairs and were given a mobile phone to use since the normal phones in the suite are upstairs only. Beds in all cottages are very large and comfortable, softer than the older Aman beds (puri/dari etc.), and especially comfortable when the mattress topper is on, so request this if you like soft beds. The pillows (one firm for reading, one really soft one for sleeping) the best we ever had.

Spa
Spa cottages spread over island very nice, team friendly, good massages, especially the deep tissue massage that cured some back problems I had. A full spa will be built close to Queens beach.

Restaurants
The restaurants, the food and the people working there are great. Really the highlight for us to be at a resort with so many good and different places to eat. There are three places to have breakfast (+ in room), 4 places for lunch and 4 for dinner, so really lot of choice – both in terms of food and atmosphere.

Piazza
Informal atmosphere and honest, tasty food – Mediterranean + tapas and pizzas. Lots of friendly people.

Olive tree
When passing, this restaurant can look messy, but at the special terrace it is completely different. Food very good, mostly grill dishes, but ask them to prepare some of the local specialties which are very tasty. Beautiful view of island.

Beach café (Milocher beach)
Friendly people, great, light food for lunch and beautiful view over Milocher beach.

Milocher loggia
The most formal of the restaurants. Great personnel, and very good food. Distant view to island + view of Milocher beach.

Queen’s chair
High up with fantastic view of the bay towards Budva, friendly service, very good food, especially the fish.

Beaches and pool
Beautiful beaches; Sveti Stefan beach is closest to island, but semi public (outside guests can rent loungers), Milocher beach in front of villa Milocher is very nice, semi public as well (more expensive for loungers, fewer outside guests) and the private for Aman and very beautiful small Queen’s beach which became our favorite. Comfortable loungers and large umbrellas. Beach staff serves water and sometimes complimentary refreshments. Good service at small, but beautiful cliff pool. Loungers in shade: Good for really hot days, but a bit cold for windy days to sit in the shade.

Children
Quite a lot of families with kids when we were there (high season), but still a quiet atmosphere in restaurants and beaches are so large that kids can play without disturbing anyone. Menus for children available in most restaurants or they would make whatever our son wanted. Cliff pool very small, not really a pool for kids to play in. Beaches good for kids when the waves were not too big, but no sand for castle building or similar.

We stayed two weeks, and it is really a place that you can stay this long without getting bored; Many things to see, different beaches, lots of great restaurants etc., though also 3 or 4 days would be great here.

Stayed in one of the better/more expensive rooms on Sveti Stefan. Would definitely recommend Sveti Stefan over Villa Milocer if you want that village type feel.
Millocer is still very well appointed but does have more of a corporate feel to it.
Does have one of the best restaurants though, outside on the loggia is great for lunch or dinner overlooking the island of Sveti Stefan.
The room quality at Sveti was very good, some initial niggling issues but all sorted out ultimately. Like most things in life, the better room you go for the better the quality. We had three amazing terraces overlooking the sea, lots of space. Definitely worth it as although expensive, when you compare it with July/August prices in most 5 star Mediterranean resorts it is in the right post code price wise. And all the better for being an Aman.
Sveti has only opened at the beginning of July 2011 and it will only get better with time. Opening another larger pool, another restaurant and bar by next Spring 2012.
Current cliff pool is fine, but small. So most people go for the beach (mainly Queens Beach, the only strictly private beach but Villa Milocer's beach is nice too and I think is probably still more than 50% Aman guests due to high cost for the locals - Euro 75; beautiful views of the Sveti island from here and strict security so don't let this put you off).
I think you need to go here with a broad mind and aware of the history of the country, what the people have been through and the centuries old fabric of Sveti. It is too early to expect everything to be flawless (like many new openings to be frank).
The food in the restaurants was fine, not spectacular or consistent yet but perfectly adequate. And some really positive waiters and managers, who want to impress and want you to be happy. Queen's Chair restaurant seafood very good. Piazza restaurant is in a lovely setting in the middle of Sveti, is more the bistro/default easy dining place.
This will be a very successful Aman. Close to Europe. Montenegro is up and coming. Beautiful mountains and scenery (urban infrastructure less so).
And by going there you are helping to create something special in a country that deserves it.

Restful weekend in a gorgeous place....
Got picked up at the Podgarica airport by Alexander and Natasha, after an one hr scenic drive that reminded me of highway 1 in California but with more aggressive drivers, arrived @ Aman with their signature painless check in (ie one signature only, no credit card requested, passport taken for a copy, done).

Stayed on the island itself vs the 8 room Villa Milocer.  There were lots of burly bodyguards, cops & drivers right outside the island hotel's entrance as the SEECP was just finishing up.  In the meantime, was given a quick tour of the island, the piazza, churches, cliff pool & bar (w/ stunning views) before being shown to my "cottage"

As with Amans elsewhere, the rooms are always inline w/ the local culture/ambiance (would never wake up in an Aman & ask...where am I !?) but while the 15th century village may not have changed on the outside, cottage 35 was rustic chic, simple yet comfy w/ ie an entire 2nd floor (accessed via a spiral staircase) devoted to bathroom space, nokia cell to use while wandering the area, comfortable bed, etc.  Not a bling bling room but definitely worth the $$$$ considering the history, time & effort to take care of this spectacular place.

Food & local wine (Serbian & Montenegrin) offered were both quite good.  All quite different: ie Taverna @ the Island's piazza, Queen's Chair (for that perfect sunset view up on a hill) & the seafront loggia.  There are lots of choices, 11 venues total when everything is up and running.

Once off the island, there are four beaches side by side, one public & three practically deserted private beaches.  Queen's beach is the farthest out of the three, but the smallest and nicest.  Kayaking from here is best done early in the morning before the yachts & their jet skis arrive.

If I must pick on something I would pick on the service at the beaches, the boys lay out your towels, bring you a drink, & that's it, ie no ice cream or fruits served automatically, sigh...yes I've just been spoilt rotten elsewhere.  Just that w/ such a high staff to guest ratio you'd expect slightly more.  Also, though the beaches are "private", you do see a constant stream of foot traffic as the only footpath between Sveti Stefan & the next town is through Aman property.

More on the plus side, free yoga lessons, no mossies, perfect weather this time of year w/ reliable long hours of sunshine, lovely clear turquiose water, etc.  ... Was definitely worth the trek out here.

We first started with Aman in Bhutan a few years back now and the experience was wonderful. We have been to 5 other Amans, including Marakech, before stopping here at Villa Milocer. The experience here was so sub par as to permanently dissuade us from doing further business with Aman. During our planned stay one of Aman's investors in Montenegro, a Greek shipping business man named Victor Restis took over the hotel with his Thai business investor and co-owner of caffeine pusher Red Bull. The investor and his buddies filled the hotel with tobacco smoke (the management hadn't the balls to tell them to take it outside), took all the luxury cars for their exclusive use, and were generally catered to hand and foot while the other guests were treated as second class citizens. At one point upon walking back to my room from an outer restaurant on the property a bodyguard of, presumably Victor Restis, jumped out of his car and asked me what I was doing there. I dont expect to be treated like a king at a hotel but I do expect to, at the very least, be treated the same as any other guest. Not the case here and I think the most offensive thing is that our poor treatment was the direct result of the arrogance of the wealthy investors in the property. Please, if you have any appreciation for the power of the written word over the arrogant billionaires of the world (and not all of them are arrogant) don't stay here.

One of the best places I've stayed .Villa Milocer is the first phase of the Aman Resort being built at sveti stefan - the beautiful island (village) they are restoring which will be ready autumn 2010. This in my mind, is the most beautiful part of Montenegro, even more beautiful than Kotor and the surrounds, where the sea is polluted and you can't /shouldn't swim in it.
This Villa, made up of 6 luxurious suites - 3 sea facing, 3 garden facing, is overlooking the island and is pure class. It has two private beaches with the most beautiful clear water - it's divine. I normally hate swimming in the sea and was disappointed not to have a pool, but as soon as I got in the sea I realised that having a pool would have been criminal. There is great beach service - towels, drinks, shower, changing tent etc on tap.
This resort is about privacy - if you want a quiet, discreet, first class service, and a whole massive beach to just 6 people, then this is for you. There's no entertainment, you have your own bose system in your room, with massive plasma, funky fireplace at the end of your bed, free minibar, bed and sheets to die for, amazing bathroom - need I say more. A lovely communal modern lounge and great stocked library.
The real beauty is sitting out on the terrace either during the day, whether having breakfast, lounging reading a book, or watching the moon reflecting on the bay whilst you eat dinner - it's the most wonderful view and the whole ambiance is totally relaxing.
There is also the use of an chauffeur driven black S Class merc that collects you from the airport, can take you out on trips. The Villa also has a beautiful Motor Yacht (Cruiser) that you can hire for half or full day - it takes 10. Not cheap but well worth it.
Villa Milocer is steeped in history, and staying here makes you feel like a celebrity - people walk along past the private beach and the Villa and stop to look at the beauty of it and it's position - envious that we have the use of the beach. Public are "shoo'd" off. Dinner is great - food of a high quality. Breakfast is a bit hit and miss - you pay euro 20 for breakfast but tea and coffee is not included, which is most weird - charging an extra euro 8 per cup on top is madness considering your minibar is free and very generously stocked - doesn't add up. I would recommend walking round past queens beach to the next bay which is very quaint with a number of waterside restaurants which are great for lunch.
The staff are extremely efficient, friendly, discreet and attentive. The general manager is in a league of his own - an amazing and totally charming , also very interesting man.
If you want entertainment, a pool and a spa, then this isn't the place for you. This is a top end discreet place to stay - somewhere to totally switch off. Yes it is expensive, but by jove, it's worth it. And just to put it in perspective - when I was staying there, on two consecutive days a billionaire moored his superyacht in our bay and brought his party to the Villa to lunch, drink and enjoy the ambiance and discretion. That just about sums it up !!
