We stayed at Sigiriya Village for 2 nights from 5th-7th February as part of a tour of Sri Lanka.

We arrived at the hotel and were given a refreshing welcome drink while we were checked in before being escorted to our room (133)

The rooms were very nice - clean and spacious. The minibar had 3 different types of glasses so you can be sure to have the correct one for your tipple - nice touch. The roomboys set up a plug-in mosquito repellent during turndown service. I managed to find 1 UK type plug socket (in the middle of the curtains wall) however adaptor plugs were available from reception. Please note - there was no hairdryer.

Dinner was buffet style and had a good choice of Sri Lankan curries as well as inernational dishes. The house speciality coffee is a must! It's made at your table and is fanastic to watch, and very tasty.

Watch out for the cheeky little monkeys all around the hotel gounds who love to steal things and are great to watch.

Would definately recommend.

“Loved this hotel”

We have just returned from a holiday in Sri Lanka which included a five day tour, during which our tour operator booked us for 2 nights at this hotel.

We loved this place. Like a previous reviewer said, it has the potential to be a great hotel. It is quite captivating.

As we were only here for 2 days, and had lots of sightseeing arranged, we didn't get a chance to use the hotels pool, or to fully explore it's extensive grounds.

The guest rooms are set in landscaped gardens full of exotic birds and monkeys. The rooms are very attractively decorated, with pretty wall hangings and furniture, but they do undoubtedly have a damp / musty smell. I think this is a by-product of being in a humid 'jungly' area (far more humid than the beach resorts), but the room's themselves certainly aren't damp. If the bathrooms (and public restrooms) were given a refurbishment, it would probably increase the star rating of this delightful little hotel, but really folks, theres nothing at all wrong with them other than a little worn shabbyness.

The food and service in this hotel's restaurant was the best we came across in Sri Lanka. Attentive doesn't come close to covering it. Everyone was so charming and smiley and helpful. The food was excellent and varied. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

It may not have high star ratings, but we wouldn't hesitiate to recommend this lovely little hotel.

“Lovely restful hotel”

As said previously, this hotel is a series of bungalows in beautiful grounds. The rooms are basic, but large and beautifully clean. There was a smell of dampness in the room, but this could be because air-con is provided despite the upper windows being left open (bugs are kept out with permanent mesh over the windows!!). The water was only tepid rather than hot but this wasn't too much of a hardship in the climate.

As is common to many hotels in Sri Lanka the staff were very attentive. The buffet was wide-ranging and of good quality. The restaurant has no external walls, so you will need your mosi repellant in the evenings. A torch can be handy when finding your way back to your room after your meal.

Make sure you check out the hotel "farm" - especially if travelling with kids. The Ayurvedic centre has great value treatments which are well worth a try.

The location is wonderful too. A very peaceful hotel which makes you feel as though you have really escaped the world.

“Potential to be great but a few areas for improvement”

This hotel classes itself as an environmentally friendly resort and is made up of a number of bungalows situated in beautifully landscaped gardens with a central reception/resturant/bar area and a swimming pool with an amazing view of Sigiriya Rock.

Our bungalow was a good size with a big double bed, a seating area, a good size bathroom and a little porch where you can sit out. Our bungalow was one of a group circling a paddy field with its own scarecrow which the hotel have established to show their visitors how farming is done in Sri Lanka. Efforts have also been made to label the different trees and plants situated around the hotel's grounds.

Breakfast and dinner were presented in a buffet form and offered good value for money with a wide range of food to choose from.

I enjoyed our stay at this hotel but I feel its worth mentioning a few areas that the hotel could improve upon to offer a better experience to their guests.

Parts of our bed linen smelt damp which was quite unpleasant.
The bathroom was very basic, hot water was very scarce and when you ran water into the sink the water overflowed through a drain in the floor.

These are only minor issues which wouldn't spoil your stay at this hotel but which could be easily addressed to improve upon the experience of staying at this lovely hotel. The only other thing we found quite difficult at this hotel, and which is most likely linked to the lack of tourists currently visiting Sri Lanka, was the over attentiveness of the staff at the hotel. General hotel staff appeared to out number guests by 5 to 1 and it felt a bit restrictive at time as they would hover around your table whilst you were eating so that it wasn't always possible to relax fully. A more discrete approach to service might have been more appropriate but at the same time I did appreciate that their intention was to do their best to look after their guests.

Finally a small warning - we found that if you try and plug something in without ensuring the plug socket is first switched off there is a risk that you'll blow the fuse and plunge yourself into darkness. Thankfully after we managed to do this they quickly sent someone to fix this for us and a candle is thoughtfully provided in the room.

This was one of first stops on a tour of Sri Lanka, where we were greeted on arrival with a hot towel and a refreshing drink. The rooms are in bungalow style and we had a joining room with our friends. The pool is stunning and the view of the Sigiriya Lion Rock brought out everyone with their digital cameras. The meals were buffet-style and very good. There was a barbeque by the pool one evening. Cover up in case of mosquitoes! Have an Ayurvedic massage in the delightful clinic, followed by cocktails in the friendly bar. Bird lovers can spend an hour or so by the pool with their binoculars. Lovely place.
