Set high on the hill overlooking Darjeeling the Cedar Inn is very picturesque. My first few days there were in the recently opened new section which blends seamlessly with the old hotel, The rooms are very spacious with gorgeous views over the valley. Bathrooms modern and clean but unfortunately bedcovers were old and stained. The food was wonderful and the staff very helpful and friendly. Every night there was a hot water bottle in my bed when I arrived back in my room and a request the night before guaranteed tea and biscuits delivered to your door anytime after 6 in the morning.
For the fit, Cedar Inn is only a 10 minute walk from the centre of Darjeeling.
Going down is fine but coming back is very steep but a good workout for those in training for the Himalayas. The hotel does offer a free shuttle downtown.
On my return to Darjeeling after a week trekking I stayed in the old section where the rooms, although not as generous in size, have a lovely ambience.
Power outages and hot water restrictions (the hot water isn't turned on until 5.00pm) are part of the experience but if you aren't up for these I would suggest you bypass India.
All in all the Cedar Inn is a great place to stay - , warm, comfortable, great food, lovely staff - and a reasonable tariff as well. I'd happily stay there again.
