We spent a week at the Montrose Hideaway and cannot say enough good about it. Mary and Greg are fantastic innkeepers who welcomed us into their B&B and fed us until we nearly burst.
We stayed in the Garden Room, which we highly recommend for privacy and comfort. The Garden Room has an exterior entrance which makes it nice to come and go. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was always clean. Mary will supply nearly anything you need from wine glasses to magazines and she keeps the mini-fridge stocked with juices and sodas. There is no need to use the in-room coffee maker because Mary has coffee brewing in the house for breakfast every morning.
There is no way to accurately describe or praise the morning meal at the Hideaway. The first morning (and every morning) started with a generous bowl of fresh fruit, melons, berries, kiwi, and some days yogurt. That was followed each day by either biscuits and chocolate gravy or monster sized muffins. (I was a little nervous abou the biscuits and chocolate gravy, but it really is delicious.) Greg had to tell us that there was more coming because we were already full when the "main course" arrived. Each day was something different, omeletts, frittatas, french toast, buckwheat pancakes. Oh my! All that food was washed down with a generous glass of juice, any kind you want, and plenty of coffee. As if that wasn't enough, Mary sent us off each day with a packet of home made cookies to tide us through on our adventures.
The grounds at the Hideaway are also lovely. There is a little pond you can walk around which is very pleasant before and/or after breakfast. The patios and hammock are a nice place to read or nap.
This review cannot do justice to the lovely time we had at the Hideaway. We were nervous first time B & B'ers, but we'll certainly do it again. If you go, make sure you don't plan to leave before 10. You will want to eat breakfast!
