I took a group of 30 people to this hotel in March 2006. It was a bit of a gamble since I had never stayed here before. Happy to report that I would do it again.
I had a two room suite with a view, and what a view it was (best to ask for floor 15 or higher). From my double bed I had a floor to ceiling view of the Huangpu River and the Pudong area - especially brilliant when lit at night.
My room was also very interesting. I had a bedroom + study+ living/dining room + bath + galley kitchen. All with hardwood floors! More like an apartment, really. Since we were staying for a week, the spaciousness was much appreciated. Bathroom featured great ammenities.
There are a few downsides...here are the things you must know to have a pleasant stay:
-no hair dryer in the room
-no clocks anywhere in room (no alarm clock, nothing)
-no bar in the hotel
-no business center to speak of
-Internet access is slow and sketchy
If you can live with those caveats you will be rewarded with the great value offered by the Panorama. Did mention that my spacious apartment with the great view cost about $100/night? Including breakfast!
Having read the other reviews on Trip Advisor, I would say that I rather enjoyed the breakfast each morning. There were lots of choices and plenty of each. The only downside is that the offerings were the same each day.
I would also commend the location. It's ten minutes walking to some of the best parts of the Bund. Getting cabs can be difficult, but the staff were very helpful.
I would definitely bring a group back or stay here with my husband on a leisure trip.

“This Hotel could be great but is terrible”

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. Our first night we observed a beautiful advertisement for lamb chops in the lobby for the restuarant on the 30th floor. When we inquired about the lamb chops they told us that it was not really on the menu and that they did not have it. I went through the wine list looking for a quality red wine. Finally we were told that nothing was available except for a bottle of inexpensive Chinese red. They always say they will have the wines on the menu the next day. I said that I had been told that many times and it wasn't true. The young man said true "this is a terrible restaurant." I said yes but the view is great.
Breakfasts are terrible. The buffet is not restocked and your choice for eggs is boiled or rubber scrambled eggs that have been left on the buffet I am sure from the time it opened. No one will eat them. While 7 employees stood around no one was offered coffee nor were dirty dishes cleared.
The rooms all have single beds. Not very romantic. It is very cold here right now. Yesterday the shower water was warm. This morning there was only cold water.
The views are spectacular. This is my third and last attempt with this hotel. It really could be great, but it appears that the employees are running the place and they are not at all concerned about the guests. We will move to a new hotel today because our business in Shanghai is not finished.

“"Shabby-chic" at the Panorama”

I stayed at the Panorama Century Court in Shanghai from October 28 through November 8,2005. I picked the hotel from "Time Out Shanghai." The hotel had lots of old Shanghai art-deco "shabby-chic" charm. My room was large attractive and had a romantic view of the river, Bund and Pudong. The bathroom was small, amenities were basic (no conditioner or moisturizer, perhaps I could've asked for them), towels were big and fluffy, and water temperature and pressure erratic. Despite warm and humid weather, the air conditioning rarely worked. The buffet breakfast and room service were adequate, not great. The staff tried to be helpful and were always polite and professional (although, I felt, somewhat lackadaisical), but absolutely nobody seemed to speak or comprehend much English. There were no tourist services that I could discern (e.g., no concierge desk) except for brochures on a rack in the lobby. Cabs had to be summoned from a nearby street, and on return trips, never seemed able to find the hotel (amazing, as it was in a great location and clustered near three other well-known hotels). In short, I loved my large attractive room (even with the air-con shortfall) and the style of the Panorama, but for a middle-aged female tourist travelling alone, this hotel left much to be desired. Atmosphere, 10, convenience, 2.

Wow what a view at this hotel... Try and get a room with a view it was great overlooking the Bund and walking distance to the Bund. The rooms are very clean, fairly big and the staff is very pleasant. You cannot cash your Canadian Money at this hotel but you can go to the Bank of China a block away. The restaurant on the 30th floor has a beautiful view and the Breakfast has greatly improved since the new chef started 2 months ago. The omelet was excellent that he made. It was very good value for the $. The only thing that worried me was the cracks we saw on the walls... they could be structural.... but I would highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Dec 25-27: Fantastic view of the HuangPu River, the Pearl Tower, the Bund from the hotel room on the 25th floor. Great lights at night scenes.

Deluxe room had hard wood floors, spacious of up to 530 sq feet with floor to ceiling windows with a fabulous view.

Location was very close to the Bund but not very central to other locations. Breakfast buffet was very limited and food was lousy. I would suggest eating out elsewhere to start the day. Service in the restaurant was also poor. Staff not efficient nor attentive.

But the view was worth it.!!
