I took a group of 30 people to this hotel in March 2006. It was a bit of a gamble since I had never stayed here before. Happy to report that I would do it again.
I had a two room suite with a view, and what a view it was (best to ask for floor 15 or higher). From my double bed I had a floor to ceiling view of the Huangpu River and the Pudong area - especially brilliant when lit at night.
My room was also very interesting. I had a bedroom + study+ living/dining room + bath + galley kitchen. All with hardwood floors! More like an apartment, really. Since we were staying for a week, the spaciousness was much appreciated. Bathroom featured great ammenities.
There are a few downsides...here are the things you must know to have a pleasant stay:
-no hair dryer in the room
-no clocks anywhere in room (no alarm clock, nothing)
-no bar in the hotel
-no business center to speak of
-Internet access is slow and sketchy
If you can live with those caveats you will be rewarded with the great value offered by the Panorama. Did mention that my spacious apartment with the great view cost about $100/night? Including breakfast!
Having read the other reviews on Trip Advisor, I would say that I rather enjoyed the breakfast each morning. There were lots of choices and plenty of each. The only downside is that the offerings were the same each day.
I would also commend the location. It's ten minutes walking to some of the best parts of the Bund. Getting cabs can be difficult, but the staff were very helpful.
I would definitely bring a group back or stay here with my husband on a leisure trip.
