I must admit our first impression wasn't encouraging but as it was late after a long drive we decided to spend one night and regroup in the morning. I was traveling w/my brother, his wife and his two teenagers and my wife and two teenagers so we booked a quad w/ac for the kids and we stayed in the $40 bungalows with a ceiling fan. The rooms were what you'd expect at that rate, they were clean but pretty unimpressive as far as decor. In the morning we enjoyed a Tico breakfast and checked out the beach. The sun finally came out and I think that helped everyone's spirits after 2 days of rain. We had a great lunch at the hotel and decided to spend another day. The place kind of grows on you, it isn't anything special but at the same time it is right on the beach and the beer is cold- if you're looking for a plush spot this really isn't it. If you're okay with a place that is a bit weathered with a great beach location next toa good surf shop (Jesse's)and a short walk to town I think this place would be fine. We ended up staying 6 nights there and the weather was spectacular and we all surfed and played cards and had a very relaxed time for not a lot of money. This is the first time my family has stayed in a place like this as far as its overall appearance and style- you know what, it was fine if you just kept it all in perspective- beautiful beach,decent food and a place to crash after a long day in the sun and waves.- pura vida

They are not nice and not clean and over use poisen which kills the wildlife around the hotel which is part of joy of Costa Rica so you see all these dead animals. they would be better off just leaving them alone or shooing them away rather than poisening them so the dead carcasses are laying around. Stayed 1 night and moved.

My family and I just returned from a 4 night stay at the Las Brisas hotel. It was very nice and right on the beach. the hotel has 2 pools and they have little huts with lawn chairs on the beach if you want to be in the shade. Our room had a great ocean view. there are a lot of stairs to get to the upper rooms with the view so if you don't want to or can't climb the stairs you should stay in the ground level bungalows.we had A/c which I would recommend as it was about 90 everyday and doesn't cool off a lot at night. The staff of costa Ricans were very friendly. The owners are German and not as friendly unless you are German or speak German. we didn't have any problems so we really didn't have to deal with them.The hotel price included breakfast. the town of Samara and the beach is very nice and very layed back. we found lots of good places to eat with a lot of variety which was important to us as we had teenagers with us.The town was about a 10 minute walk on the beach and many of the restraunts were right on the beach.I would stay at this hotel again.

There is nothing special about this hotel other than its location right on the beach.
Our room was located right above reception, which actually turned out not to be as bad as we thought it would. Room was sparsely furnished but with nice bathroom. The lower level rooms and cabins seemed to be more populated with the upper level "sky rooms" and pool more like a ghost town. The place was crawling with kids so if you don't like that then you won't like this. Breakfasts were not that good. At all of the other hotels in Costa Rica we were served freshly squeezed OJ. Not here. Service was a little sparse as well.
A little disconcerting peculiarity--there are signs posted all over the property indicating that the hotel will not be responsible for thefts...??
