What a fantastic stay!..I stayed for 5 nights and was travelling alone. The level of comfort and location was perfect!. The rooms are well keep and from the way they are layed out and landscaping throughout, each apartment maintains a level of privacy. I cant say enough about the sushi bar!...superb sushi and such genuine friendly people. No nicer way to end a day on the beach than watching a good surfing video, eating fantastic fish and having a casual chat ! I've travelled extensively and these guys really made me feel at home! Alot of people have their weddings here I heard and I can see why; they are detailed to a 'T'. The restaurant also is filled ot the brim with wonderful people. The food is ok , can get a little pricey so be prepared to pay. Town is only a 5 minute drive down the road? The staff overall here are attentive, patient, effecient and overall.....FRIENDLY above and beyond. I thank them all , and would recommend them to each and every friend!

Sometimes people can make your travelling experience even better than what you expected! In this case, one of the waiters and the girl from the spa made our stay at the hotel very relaxing. I recommed having a massage in the spa, order the mousecake as a dessert and having fruit juices... some of the best I ve ever tried. The pool is ok, but whats nice is that it has trees and plants all around it, makes it cooler. The beach is a few steps away from the hotel. I´d suggest you to walk a little further in search of less rocky spots, you´ll find them easily.

So, I had my wedding here a couple weeks ago on June 19th and stayed in a villa that night. I own a condo in Langosta and I have always admired this property for its great design, low key villas, and overall style. We eat at the restaurant often and love he food so we knew we wouldn't be disappointed come wedding reception dinner.

Our wedding was magical, wonderful, and well almost perfect. We had some issues with the bar serving top shelf shots at the open bar which was agreed ahead of time was not supposed to happen. Our night's stay was quite nice, but in the morning we were shocked at the price tag of a local call which in my opinion should always be free at hotels, especially for the price of Cala Luna.

My sister and I also used the new Shankra Spa for a hot stone massage. I was incredibly impressed and loved every minute. The two ladies who worked there were amazingly friendly and gracious. The whole experience was top notch and definitely worth the $. However, their prices for mani/pedi's are a bit high and aren't comparable to other high end spas.

Anyway, my review seems to hop around but overall I love this hotel. All the employees I have encountered are very sweet and accommodating. The property is lovely. And the location is romantic and quiet. The construction nearby has ceased at least when we were there. It looks like the Crystal Sands is finished and sadly it is grotesque...the guy who approved that should be in jail. I wish more architects took a page from Cala Luna's book. I also hope they don't tear down the villas like someone aforementioned, that is where Cala Luna's charm is!

We orginally booked a standard room. When we arrived there was bugs in the room and had to move to another one. This one turned out to be looking on to a huge crane (as we found out the next morning) and the workmen were pretty noisy too.

We were quickly moved, without hassle to a beautiful 2 bedroom villa (private pool and fully equipped kitched). There was no doubt it was fanstastic, only once again we were opposite a building site. This was through no fault of the Cala Luna but it did spoil the holiday for us.

The Air Con was playing up in the room and it took the best part of our stay to get it fixed. The Reception staff did not take our complaints seriously until our Rep got involved.

Now, I'm a little frightened of crabs and I would warn anyone of a similar nature to beware!! They come crawling into the room at night under the patio doors!! They end up in wardrobes and everywhere!

During our stay, they decided to close one of the restaurants for refurbishment. This again, wasnt ideal as we were limited to one restaurant and breakfast was overlooking workmen.

There are plenty of things to look out for in and around the hotel - beautiful birds, howler monkeys (which wake you up in the morning), squirrels and racoons.

We did spend many a lovely day walking the beach and nipping to Cafe Nari (at The Diria Hotel) for a pistacio ice cream topped with flaked almonds - the best I have ever tasted!!

A day trip to Paulo Verde was affordable and gave us the chance to spot some wildlife too.

The Iguana Surf School was a brilliant induction for me and that alone make me want to go back for more! They have a few places in and around town.

During our fortnight we booked 2 nights at the Arenal Observatory Lodge. This I was highly recommend. Neither of us were at ease with driving and found Naturair a cheap and fun alternative transport.

For all ladies, I'd recommend you take a novel called 'Cafe Tropicana' by Belinda Jones. It is based in Tamarindo and co-incided really well with the trip for me!

Any questions, please ask!

My wife and I travel quite a bit and we decided to go to Costa Rica for a week. We flew into tamarindo on Sansa airlines without difficulty and were taken to Cala Luna via a taxi for 14 dollars. Although we both speak moderate spanish everyone seemed to speak english. (including taxi). Right off the bat we knew it would be a touristy city with elevated prices.
Upon arrival to Cala Luna we were given drinks and binder with daily excurtions outside of the city. The staff was excellent and they were more than willing to help.
There are two resturants at Cala Luna. Across from the pool form one another. They prepare their food with pride and we were impressed with the quality. The sushi on wednesday is "unliminited" for 20bucks each and it was very tasty. The pool is beautiful and quite. We spent a day sitting along side of it ordering drinks.
We were concenred though, because the hotel was dead. There was like nobody there. They say it is the down season, that being said, I cannot imagine the hotel will stay above water taking into consideration the number of failed projects Costa Rica already has. Their prices are a bit high given the economic climate and their high vacancy rates. (that is for them to figure out though). Max, one of the plesant people you will meet, is a welcome face after a long day of excurtions and I wish him well.
The rooms were great, the TV's have english channels. The beds are hard as heck, certainly not like a westin or a W.
The excursions are a bit expensive. I would recommend renting your own SUV intown (online first) and driving to the volcano rather than paying 220 a person?!
All in all the hotel was a plesant suprise. i would go back again. I am concerned for it making it in the next few years as this place was way to quite (good for us however). They need to reprice their product, not for our sake but for their sake!
