First the good: The staff is here is very friendly, they give you a free breakfast which is basically a counter full of groceries that you can do with what you will and you get a free ride back and forth to the airport for international flights. Now the bad: The room was tiny and smelled funny, the rooms are all real close and too connected, you can't get hot water and any kind of water pressure in the shower at the same time, no hot water in the sink, I tried to do laundry after 4PM and to grab a banana from the kitchen before 7AM and was scolded both times by the staff for breaking their nonsensical rules, you can hear your neighbors' TV pretty well, loud church bells go off at 5AM and then again at 5:30AM. Really, this place is more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel and not a very good one at that. I would not stay here again.

If you are looking for a clean hotel with a friendly staff, this is it! The breakfast was amazing and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. My room was always very clean and quiet and I was able to check my email daily since there is free access to the internet. If you do not want to bring your laptop with you, there are two computers in the main floor for the guests. The family who owns the hotel makes you feel very much at home. I will certainly return to this hotel when I go back to Heredia. This is a very good deal!



. Airport transportation is included

I stayed four nights @ Hotel Hojarascas and it was wonderful. The family that runs the hotel treats you like family (mi hermano Jose). They have wonderfully healthy breakfasts and provide free to and from transportation when flying into and out of the international airport. I highly recommend this hotel - La Vida Pura. I stayed two nights in Hotel Hojarascas in mid-January and found it to be an excellent value for the money (rate was $62 per night then). It is not the Hotel Bougainvillea with it's excellent gardens, spacious rooms, original art, restaurant and service, but the rates are less than half what you would pay there. And it is definitely several notches above the Hotel Heredia or Hotel Ceus, two of several downtown hotels that anchor the bottom end. The rates include having someone pick you up at the airport (Jose on this visit) and getting a taxi to the airport when you leave - this is a great service to have included. And the desayuno while simple was fresh and diverse (bread, yogurt, fresh fruit, cheese, coffee, more..). They even had it available 45 minutes early so that I could eat before an early morning flight. The only thing that a guest may find unattractive is the location - several blocks from the central square, but it's a short walk. If you and a spouse/companion are taking a leisurely vacation and want to splurge, go to the Bougainvillea. But if you want a decent hotel at an excellent price, stay at the Hotel Hojarascas.
