This hotel is supposed to give you nice rooms, good food and activities; however, they're not as good as they say (though they charge you that way).

You can check different complaints about the rooms on other reviews and I can tell you, they're true. You can be charged a lot less for that kind of room in many other places in CR. No A/C, no TV, hard to get some sleep on those beds, poor lighting... if you've gone camping this is much like it.

On regards to the food... they serve a buffet with traditional dishes you could get 1/2 off on any restaurant in the country, you could just drive 10min to find better food at a fair price any where in Sarapiqui.

Finally about the activities... when I arrived I was told I could go fishing on the property and they even offered to cook for free any catch at the restaurant... well there's no fish in the pond!! that's the cheapest lie I've heard. They also offered me horseback riding they don't have in the place, another lie... terrible!!! As costarrican I'm embarrassed there's places like this one that fool with tourists from overseas.

“Beautiful setting, but spoilt by several things”

The hotel is on the edge of tropical rainforest, with a large garden area at the rear where you can see native plants and wildlife. There are covered walkways between the blocks of rooms, with lush heliconias and other plants on both sides, all of which are labelled. The setting really is perfect, but unfortunately our stay here was spoilt by several problems.

When we first arrived in our room it was unbearably hot, and the feeble ceiling fan did nothing to improve matters. To be fair to the hotel, they did provide us with an industrial-strength fan immediately, which soon cooled us down. However, in a tropical region like this, air-conditioning is essential, and in this grade of hotel it should be standard in all rooms.

We soon noticed that one of the 'walls' of the room was actually just a lattice screen (with insect net, though), which meant that we had very little privacy. We could hear every word that people said outside, and all the other noises of the hotel too, although it was nice to hear the birds and insects.

However, our biggest gripe was the regular barking of the hotel dog, which spent most of its time near the door of the kitchens (leading us to question the standards of hygeine too). We were woken up late at night and early in the morning by this animal, and the fact that we did not have a proper wall to our room made the noise seem particularly loud.

It is a real shame about these problems, because the La Quinta has the makings of a great hotel. However, until the management sort these things out, it is probably best avoided.

La Quinta was very nice. It had nature paths, butterfly gardens, frog areas, and was right next to a nice river. The pool was nice, and occupied by a very large lizard- or was when i was there. the staff was very nice and all spoke english. The room seemed secluded and private, they all have a patio with a hammock. It was very relaxing and the indigenous plant life was beautiful. There wasn't an air conditioner, but it was very open. I would suggest river rafting and zipline tours with aventuras del sarapiqui they were both very fun!

Not quite we expected mainly because web and brochures had horseback riding onsite listed , but they had discontinued this. the owners and staff very friendly & helpful. very easy to set up tours to all different attractions in the area. Rooms were sparse but comfortable.Try to book a cabin on the outside area,One of the highlights was sitting outside every morning watching the squirrels fight over the coconuts, also having breakfast watching the birds feed on the fruits setup around the patio. Foodaverage usually served buffet style. If you're looking for a laidback relaxing not into the beach and want to see an amazing variety of fauna this is a great placeto spend a few days. If you do go see if the sloth is still living beside the pool. We are going back to Costa Rica in Apr 06 and will be staying here for a few days to recharge

This was our fourth hotel in Costa Rica and it was the only one I wish I hadn't picked. The rooms are really big and have a nice porch into the garden with some rocking chairs and a hammock, which is a nice arrangement (although it was right next to another room's porch area, so not very private). The rooms are very sparse--white walls and not much in the way of decoration or atmosphere--and the walls are extremely thin. We could hear our neighbors' every word. The beds are comfortable but there was no mattress pad below the thin sheet, which could be improved upon. I was also confused about the rate--we had been told that we were getting a $69 rate with breakfast but when we checked out we were charged for breakfast--which might have meant that we were charged less for the room, but I didn't really want to haggle them over $20. We also had no idea if or how much we were charged for the dinner buffet, so we just ate there (it was $10 each for dinner). None of this would have been so problematic other than the fact it isn't clear how much the meals were (it should be part of the initial information at check-in since they put your name on a table for each meal like it is reserved for you and you never sign anything saying you've eaten the meal and it is okay to charge it to your room), except that the food leaves a lot to be desired, especially for the price. So the rooms were okay, but for the price in Costa Rica I think that you can find a better place to stay. It seemed to be very popular with tourist groups, which is probably the best audience for the hotel, but made it that much less attractive to us.
