I arrived at the hotel in a taxi at about midnight straight from the airport after a delayed flight. I was starting to wonder where on earth the taxi driver was taking me as the area around this hotel seemed very run down and dodgy.
The hotel is actually more of a motel with outdoor access to the rooms which is not what I was expecting. I did not feel safe but was so shattered from the long journey that I just fell into bed and went to sleep.

The room was fine although the bathroom light didn't work, the breakfast and coffee in the morning were good and there was free internet access.
I would not have stayed at this hotel for more than one night or if I'd wanted to see some of San Jose and i did not return to it for the night before my flight home even though it was considerably cheaper than the hotels closer to the airport

When we checked in the BW San Jose, I noticed the guard with the shotgun at the entrance. Then I noticed the people sleeping and begging across the street.
Rooms were fine and service was OK.
Other than the Marriott San Jose, ALL of the city, and the hotels are Dangerous!
Shotguns in all the banks, the grocery stores and the larger businesses.
The Pacific coast is much better.

I paid $63 off octopustravel.com and the hotel was great for the price. They did have my shuttle to the airport which saved me a $20 cab ride and free breakfast that had many choices and also 2 free welcome cocktails. It is in a bad area but you can do a lot of shopping in that area. So if I was leaving out of San Jose I would stay in this hotel again.

I have stayed at the Best Western Hotel many times.. I just got back from San Jose two days ago. The only problem I had was leaving. I was told the night before that I would have hotel shuttle service to the airport. It was 5am and to my surprize they sent a taxi and the driver looked very shady to me. I was very apprehensive about taking this taxi. The manager at the front desk could see my uneasy feeling and he actually laughed at me. The taxi had no meter and and the driver showed no indentification. Even though it was a free ride I still felt very nervous.. Just because of the desk manager's attitude towards me I will never stay at the hotel again. The hotel is nice and the service is good (free breakfast and shuttle around the city) but I felt that the desk manager played a cruel joke with me and I didnt like it. My ride to the airport was uneventful but I didnt feel secure until I got out of the taxi. If you are visiting another country you want to feel safe but I lost that the day I was leaving for the airport. As I said earlier I have stayed at the hotel before and this was the first time that I didnt feel secure. I thought I was being set up for a robbery. Well Best Western you have lost a costumer! The desk mangaer even made a comment "two minutes is all the time you have'
