It's a good hotel in terms of location, staff, grounds, and ease. They have an internet room, which is very nice, and Denny's, which is good for a smooth transition into a culture change.

The rooms, however, vary. We stayed one night at the beginning of our trip in a beautiful room that looked as if it had recently been renovated and then we stayed the last night of our trip in a different room that was moldy, shabby, and kind of icky.

It seems that if they have lots of security personnel, it is supposed to make us feel safer,...but being from LA, I see extra security and think I'm not safe at all because extra security is needed. SO, that was different.

The staff was very nice. The internet room was nice. Ask for a recently renovated room.

As we previously stayed in a Best Western property in Costa Rica, we decided to book directly through the hotel in Jaco. We wanted a hotel
near the San José airport, to catch our flight back home. There are two Best Western hotels in San José, but this one is closer to the airport and major roads.

There is a very nice interior garden, as well as a pool. The hotel is not that recent, but the rooms are very clean. We had a patio door
with a view on the garden and pool. There are two computers with free
internet, as well as wireless internet in the lobby. I saw that they had a bar, but did not go.

There is a Denny's next door that you can walk to, if you want to grab a quick bite. Nothing fancy, I admit, but it's as good as any Burger King or Wendy's. There is also a casino in the hotel, and we went to gambling a bit. But, caution! If they offer you any of those
"appetizer" things, do not take one, because they are horrible! I had
to spit what I ate in an ashtray because it was uneatable.

I'd say it's an excellent hotel for an overnighter before you take a plane back home, because there's not a lot to do around.

We stayed here twice, the first time was ok. Nice room, clean, efficient check-in. The second time we stayed here we had an old, dirty room which was apparently in the renovations area of the hotel. We found this out at 6am when the power saws fired up. When we asked to move we were told the hotel had oversold and were unable to put us in a another room.
The happy hour is a lot of fun, and we needed a lot of drinks to be able to sleep through all the noise. Definatly try out the restaurant across the street, the food in unreal and quite reasonably priced. Denny's is overpriced and a bit gross, but I'm sure would be comfort food for a lot of people.
Wouldn't come back unless I was in the mood to power drink for an hour.

The grounds are better than average, decent location just outside the city and there are many tour companies and car companies located nearby. However, the rooms are below average and the service is horrible. Rooms are dirty, moldy, dark and sub standard for Costa Rica. The service is horrible and that is coming from a world traveler who does have patience. Bad service was not a one time situation.

Rates vary significantly so check the internet for the best rate if you stay here. Our rate was $110 and that was way too high given the quality of the hotel, location and service. We were going to stay for 5 nights but ended up cancelling the rest of our stay.

If you like Denny's, bad service and dirty rooms then this is the place for you. Otherwise, check www.tripadvisor.com for a better hotel value.

Stayed in Costa Rica from 13th-25th march 2007. Flew into San Jose and stayed at the Best Western Irazu. Good choice as it was a very busy hotel with lots of tourists especially Americans. Stayed 1 night 13th and then returned on the 23/24/25.Reception was very professional and efficient. Big rooms overlooking the pool. breakfast in Denny's with a voucher. Happy hour from 5-6 in the bar-free drinks.Had a meal in the restaurant across the road. Very good though dearer than most meals we had. Went in and out of downtown San Jose regularly. Went to the street craftmarket in Plaza de la Democracithe-is the best place to buy souvenirs at a better price than other places we were at.Supermarket not far away and had a pleasant meal in a little bar down from the supermarket and up the stairs.
