Had been here a few years back just for dinner but had the opportunity to stay for 3 nights, May 8th-11th. The hotel had expanded since I had been there, it is still as beautiful, even more so, than it was. The staff was outstanding, our room, #5, was beautiful, we even had a good sized outdoor courtyard with lots of plants and a fountain, glass roof and glass French doors. If you don't have the opportunity to stay here at least dine in the restaurant. We even had room service from the restaurant delivered one night. The rooms were very affordable, $140.00 per night for a deluxe room. Saw the other area hotels and ours was the best. Restaurant can be pricey, each night was approx. $100.00 for two but well worth it. I would most definitely return and recommend this hotel. You can walk to everything, the Jade museum, Gold Museum, National Theatre and shopping. The only place to stay in San Jose.

I can't honestly think of anything bad about this hotel - I absolutely loved it. If anything, the fact it was in San Jose (the city wasn't for me!!)

The staff were fantastic and the hotel itself was beautiful. We booked a table in the restaurant and the food and drinks were brilliant and good value for money too. And that's the surprising thing, if this hotel was in New York or London it would be a fortune to stay there. It had a great little gift shop too.

My tip for this place would be to book a massage. I'm a connoiseur in massages and I think this one tops my list of favourites!

We travel to San Jose often and we have found a gem..This hotel is so beautiful and besides the location is staffed with knowledgeable Costa Ricans. Upgrade your room if you can for space and ask front desk of advise on dining, but go to the Argentinian Steak House in town..Bring your hair dryer, because they do not provide one..A true 5 star hotel..

My husband and I only stayed at the hotel for one night as we were traveling through San Jose so I can't really speak to what San Jose is like but the hotel is beautiful. The restaurant has a nice garden in the center and there is a hot tub on the roof. The food is very good at the restaurant too. It seemed like a lot of locals came to enjoy it. We stayed in a room that had a little patio with a waterfall which was very beautiful although we didn't get to enjoy it that much. Overall, we really liked the hotel and would definitely recommend it.

The Grano De Oro hotel certainly exceeded my expectations. For a very reasonable price I stayed in the Garden Suite during the in-coming aspect of my trip (I was going surfing at Mal Pais) and then a Deluxe Room on the last day in Costa Rica. The hotel was such a nice escape from a non-glamorous city. The Deluxe Room was my favorite--Room 6 on the second floor with a beautiful sitting area that had a fountain. The photographs on their website (as of 5/2008) do NOT do this property justice. It is such a cute, friendly hotel with a fabulous restaurant and outstanding staff. They even found us a yoga class!! The rooms in the newer section of the property have a nice style to them and overlook a little garden patio and the restaurant. The entrance was refreshing and welcoming with flowing water next to the entry staircase. If you need to stay in San Jose--this is the place to go!
