Pros:
Customer Service: All front desk representatives were so helpful. I spoke poor Spanish and they were so patient; they could've spoke English to me but they spoke Spanish to me until I finally said I had to speak English. They gave me a jumpdrive to use on the computer to save the info so that I could print on their computer. They faxed my papers. They pointed out different places on the map for me. They changed my room when I told them the humid, musty smell was too much to bear. They made sure the room I had was near the center, with all amenities, which leads me to the next pro.
Amenities: Washer and dryer was so helpful... no need to bring too much clothing if you plan to stay at this hotel throughout. Shampoo and conditioner were in pumps. No bottles. Kitchenette (stove and HUGE fridge).
Mega Super (supermarket) not more than five minutes away by car... (we drove but got lost in the beginning) We bought two gallons of water and filled it up in a bottle to take everywhere. They will call a taxi for you if you don't have a car.
Buffet breakfast: Yum Yum Yum... their sausages, their omelettes, tropical (fresh) fruits, drinks (iced tea, milk, orange juice, watermelon juice), potatoes, maduros (i guess, plantains), make your own waffles with different sauces (syrup and two others).
Currency exchange: They exchanged our money without any fees. 490 colonnes to 1 dollar (4/19-23) but when you do it vice versa you get 1 dollar to 500 colonnes (we exchanged the money back when we left that morning).
Negatives:
Hot water and pressure: For some funny reason, the water would be blistering hot when you first turn it on; then you would fiddle with it and at the end even if you shut off the cold water, the hot water will just be lukewarm! If you take your shower at a strange time, like 4pm or something, you get the hot water but mornings and evenings you only get lukewarm water.
Housekeeping: Minor issues- they didn't replace the tissue box we took to the car and they didn't replace smaller (hair or face) towels... could've been resolved with a phone call but we didn't bother... wasn't a big deal.
Internet access: NOT Free at the business center. You gotta pay $4 an hour! But if you bring your laptop (wireless) you can use it ONLY in the front desk lobby and in the restaurant and garden. Weird... $4 is not excessive but I expected it to be free.
Neighborhood: About 30 minutes from the airport... god help you if you get lost getting there which was what happened to us. Neighborhood is not too safe... nobody really wanders the neighborhood at night. But we asked and asked people and we finally arrived at the hotel after 11/2 hrs.
If you plan to drive around san jose, go to google and print out the neighborhood maps... or get a good map at the car rental... theirs is good too. If you plan to drive around costa rica, (we drove to arenal for one night) use the maps and directions from http://www.costaricamap-online.com/ (in color is best)... we didn't need a guidebook or anything...
All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.
