As many of my Tico family members belong to this club, I've been going to the Tennis Club for years. The hotel offers the visitor excellenct swimming facilites (one with swimup bar), tennis courts, bowling alley, basketball courts and restaurants with nice views of the mountains surrounding San Jose. The food served is simple and tasty (good, stiff drinks). And the people watching is excellent as it offers the foreigner a good glimpse as to how the middle class Ticos live day-to-day. Nevertheless, the rooms of the hotel associated wit the club leave quite a bit to be desired. The hotel is plagued by dirty public spaces (lobby, hallways, etc.), poor lighting, dirty carpeting, poor air conditioning and a general need of refurbishment.
As the main sports arena of Costa Rica is right across the road, the club hotel is heavily used by sports teams in town for competition. Needless to say, the noise levels that a bunch of youths can produce is startling at 11 p.m.
Overall, the Tennis Club is nice place to hang out during the day by the pool with the swimup bar but try another hotel if your looking for any type of serious comforts or quiet.
