My husband was stationed in Ketchikan when I moved up there to get married to him. We were just starting out and didn't have the money to leave the island for a honeymoon or any kind of vacation. I really wanted to do something special so I did some research. Out of all of the hotels that I saw, all of the possible things that i could think of, the Black Bear Inn blew them all out of the water. Nicole and Jim went out of their way to make sure that the experience was out of this world. The room was romantic, and the sliding glass doors in our room provided for the best view i had yet to see in Ketchikan. We enjoyed the sunset right from the bed. (Not to mention the spa that overlooks the Tongass Narrows) Not many of the other hotels in Ketch are right on the water and this one is in the perfect location. Two seconds from town, yet far enough away to have a genuine Alaksan experience. Nicole and Jim have many local friends that run charter businesses for the best fishing! Bring your catch home and cook it on the awesome outdoor kitchen, which provides the perfect festive atmosphere. NO OTHER LOCAL HOTEL OFFERS ANY OF THIS!!! Trust me, they may look nice in pictures, but they are bare, uncomfortable, moldy and not well kept. The Black Bear may be very slightly more expensive, but it pays for its self in experience!! I have gone back!!!

I stayed in the Black Bear Inn for a week in July when I came over from London on a dream fishing trip. Nicole and Jim were very friendly and helpfull. The Black Bear Inn has a great seaside view and I had some great fish BBQ's while enjoying a cold local beer and watching the sunset and the eagles. There is also a sauna where you can relax after a long day. I can definately recommend the Black Bear Inn to anyone going to Ketchikan

If you looking for a great fishing vacation to Alaska, look no further. We had a vacation of a lifetime and plan to return next year. The Bed & Breakfast is an excellent location, on the inside passage, with wonderful amenities. After a day of fishing organized by Nicole (the owner) and catching a 215-pound Halibut; you can relax in the spa looking at the bald eagles and water. Enjoy your stay in Alaska, we certainly did.

Warm hospitality in the Great Northwest is the best description for our stay at the Black Bear Inn. Our hosts, Nichole and Jim made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in the door. Every amenity you could think of was furnished in their beautiful home and every effort was made to make our stay a memorable one. They more than surpassed our expectations! The view of the Inside Passage was great as was the added, and very unusual, treat of watching a pair of
Bald Eagles teach their two chicks how to fish. In our opinion, the Black Bear Inn is ‘The Place’ to stay in Ketchikan and we highly recommend it!

“The Black Bear Inn - An Outstanding Home Away From Home”

My family and I had just spent a week on an 87' 1920's motor-yacht cruising from Juneau to Ketchikan and we were feeling sad that that part of our trip had come to an end. The only thing that was keeping our spirits up was our pending stay at the Black Bear Inn! We had never been to Ketchikan before, so I did a lot of research to find the "right" place for our vacation to come to an end. I must say, the pictures of the Inn on the web site, though attractive, did not do it justice....you must see it to believe it - it is gorgeous!
In our dour state - end of a great week on the water, cabbing in the rain to the Inn, our spirits were lifted immediately upon arrival. The Inn - located outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Ketchicakn - was an oasis after a long day of traveling. The open design of the common spaces - living room, kitchen, dining area - and fantastic view of the Inside Passage welcomes even the most discerning guest. A soak in the covered outdoor spa watching the seaplanes coming in to land and the ships leaving port brought balance back to our trip.
The accommodations were first rate; quality fixtures and appliances, large finished laundry room, spacious bathrooms, state-of-the-art sound and video system made it hard to leave. An ample supply of games and videos coupled with the outdoor spa made for an excellent week enjoying Ketchikan.
For those wishing to skip the rental car hassle, the bus - literally called "The Bus" stops at the Black Bear Inn hourly for a short ride to downtown Ketchikan. Great for groups with different schedules or travel objectives.
Our host, Nicole made certain all of our needs were met. She even drove us to the grocery store in the rain upon our arrival to ensure our nutrition needs were met (after we ate the pastries she had for our arrival "snack"). Nicole's husband Jim is generational Alaskan and between Jim and Nicole you will learn as much as you would like about the area and its attractions.
