The food is a bit pricey but they give you a TON of food. WIFI worked good, and it is a GREAT spot if you are leaving the Grand Canyon later in the day or are coming from the North and want to come in to the Grand Canyon the next morning. Tusayan is overpriced and I found this to be enjoyable and a good value.

The rooms are nicely decorated and clean, comfortable beds, good views of the surrounding landscape from the second and third floors. Would definitely make this a stopover when heading towards the Grand Canyon. Flagstaff is not too far of a drive from Cameron, but the hotel in Cameron is nicer. The gift shop is expensive, but it has everything a person could want for southwest themed gifts, also has basic needs for travelers like tooth brushes and toothpaste, even dog food which we were grateful to get since we had our little dog with us and hadn't planned on stopping for the night. The restaurant is like an old time restaurant, basic staples like french fries, "Navajo" bread, chili, enchiladas, and hamburgers. Not really many options for vegetarians/vegans.

The Little Colorado River flows next to the hotel, down in the canyon. We don't know if it is permitted to go hiking down in the canyon, but we found a hole in the fence and climbed down, it was a beautiful hike along the riverbed, but be careful in the Spring and summer because it could flood and there are not very many ways out of the canyon. While hiking, we eventually scrambled up some rocks to reach the mesa, and met up with some questionable people burning things... like couches, refrigerators, and mattresses (kinda strange because there were no vehicles to bring the objects out there, just some weirdos wandering around in the middle of nowhere burning furniture). Be careful, would suggest a group of 4 people at least to go exploring.

Our room was very clean and appeared newly decorated and had a strong Indian theme (carved wood bedheads, chairs and bureau) and Kokopelli-like metal figurine lamps etc. The motel is attached to a store which was fun to wander about in and see and buy nik-nax, jewelry, blankets etc, and had a "grocery" store section with some useful items. The real surprise was the restaurant in the back which had an American menu with huge portions, but some other dishes like Navajo Stew which was awesome (very tender beef, local vegetables and a terrific broth) and was served with Navajo bread (big puffy fried thing!) with honey. The ceiling is unpainted stamped tin and truly worth a good stare -- on the walls hang blankets and other Indian things on the fireplace mantle so the atmosphere is good as was the service by very pleasant staff. I think this restaurant is on the Navaho reservation so there is no liquor served (nor beer and wine) so we made do with tea and hot chocolate. There are some good views down the Little Colorado River and across the reservation lands. The store had some cool items like alabaster carvings and Navaho tea and copper costume jewelry if you are into treating yourself with such items. ;-)

Room tip: We had Room 202A which has front door with windows on front and a big balcony with french doors on the back (on second floor as building is on a slope) overlooking the river so was very pleasant. Front windows tilted open but needed us to go outside to help them tilt as we liked having air flow thru our room rather than air conditioning (which looked like it worked).

Our stay was wonderful. The room was well-maintained and comfortable with wonderful Southwest decor. The garden is special and would be a great oasis in the summer heat. Dining sevice was pleasant and efficient with tasty food. The gift shop is also great with both fun, junky stuff and real deal crafts and rugs, especially the rugs. I had eaten and shopped there several times before but had never stayed here before. It was the best lodging of our Southwest trip.

Room tip: Ask for 2nd floor room with graden/canyon views.
